The Bengals

I’m more commenting on the team waiting a year longer to re-sign their guys than most teams do, excluding the Cowboys, and that leading to more training camp theatrics and holdouts than a normal NFL team. They almost never sign 30+ year old guys, which actually leads to the team having the lowest amount of dead-cap money year after year. It also leads to allowing productive players that could have helped the team walk.

Burrow to miss a minimum three months. I think Jake Browning is one of the top backups in the league, but the team was already filled with question marks, and this news adds another. I like to be the eternal optimist and think that some of those ? become !'s, but there are dark clouds on the horizon.

Bengals OL has been average at best since they drafted Burrows. Team has refused to spend the money needed to upgrade, nor have they drafted players at the position that have helped. Bengals have invested instead in Burrows and 2 WR.

Blaming the OL is a bit lazy IMO. They are by no means a good unit (I think they are below average not awful), but Burrow’s play style induces poor OL performance/rankings. Watch their numbers get better with Browning.

Also, they have invested in the OL to a degree (signing Orlando Brown in 2023, drafting Mims in R1 in 2024), but yes they should’ve done more.

Prioritized re-signing WRs Chase and Higgins at the behest of Burrow may not have been the best move, but it was what Burrow wanted and now they are living with the consequences.

Anddd JJ McCarthy is out with an injury for next weeks game. Battle of the backups!

I’m a Steelers fan, so I don’t deep dive the Bengals. However, NFL Network, on Sirius was doing a deep dive on the Bengals OL and they said they weren’t any good. P.S. I can’t stand the Steelers current QB. This Yinzer says “free us from Aaron!”

Per Adam Schefter, Bengals pass protection since drafting Burrow has been ranked between 27 and 32 every year. I would say that is the definition of poor.

I don’t think the offensive line has anything to do with it. It’s the offensive scheme that Zac Taylor runs year in and year out. The offensive line has been porous since Zac arrived in 2019, it has nothing to do with the OL or how much the team has invested.

This year, there’s a new OL coach who’s supposed to be pretty good. But the problems are still there. New OC last year. Still no change.

Add in the fact that Zac is signed through 2026 at $4.5 million a year and Mike Brown won’t cut a coach he owes money to, nothing’s going to change.

Not a Bengals fan. Ownership and management bears most of the responsibility for neglecting the OL and risking Burrow. Taylor’s schemes don’t help, and Burrow isn’t completely blameless for advocating they overpay their received room (though I can’t blame the org for extending Chase). But it’s ultimately on the FO to make those calls and find a solution. Frankly I would’ve drafted Sewell years back, but what do I know.

They went the right way with Chase. If Higgins doesn’t start producing, look for him on the trading block

It’s really close because Sewell isn’t a blind side blocker and Chase is that good, but after Burrow got hurt his rookie season I think OL needed to be their number one priority. Also hindsight being 20/20, they (and every other franchise) had a chance at drafting Amon Ra on Day 3.

I’m a Packers fan, but sadly I had Burrow as my QB. Oh well, I hope MU does better! Beat UNLV!

Worst football I’ve seen from them

It all reflects on the head coach. The OL has been shit since he got there and all he wants to do is call plays. Look at how Harbaugh had toughened up the Chargers (course they’ll get shellacked today by the Broncos) and thy have a great old running game.

Taylor will be there this year and next. He’s got a $4.5 million contract for next year

My 10 year old is distraught about Chase Brown and Jamar Chase on his fantasy team…

Team did NOT show up yesterday . TOTAL CF

RIP Rudi

Bengals aren’t winning anything with this hack UW qb. He’s dreadful. What a waste of an offense. Love Sean Payton but the Broncos are not good and we could lose by 30 tnite. Bleak.

Give him some better play calling. Looks like the Aveon Smith ball state air raid plan out there

And so many penalties. Sloppy all around, not just at QB. Same thing last week- Jamarr fumbled, TE fumbled, defense can’t stop anything
