It was recruiting, and it is slowly improving.
Yeah CC went from being below us in the standings 4 years ago to competing for the conference championship last season with steady improvement year by year raising their win percentage every season.
It seems like they do a good job finding really good young talent (that doesnât regress) like the Hunter McKowns and the Noah Labas and getting them to join their team.
So itâs absolutely doable to improve in the NCHC- we are seeing it happen right in front of us. CC is ranked even
So are we going to win 10 games this year?
Does the fact we only have two Canadians on our 27 man roster have anything do do with recruiting deficiencies? I know the two year COVID border closure stopped the flow. I assumed weâd opened it back up.
I was listening to a podcast bergeron did a couple years ago and it was interesting he was going on and on about how he really doesnât like/want to/refuses to recruit 1 year transfers and he only wants to go for younger guys who can help build the program culture and play for us longer (he said the only exception to this was Will Cullen because he knew him beforeâŚ). Itâs funny how thatâs changed now and theyâve been forced to go for older guys the past couple seasons. Iâm not sure recruiting has gone the way heâs wanted it to.
I do like next yearâs freshman class. Plus I would argue that the freshmen that played last night were two of the best players on the ice. And obviously the sophomores have been very impactful too. Things are sorta kinda starting to take shape?
That was an excuse they used for a minute but at this point the COVID excuse is dumb. It feels like we gave up on the Canadians and decided to solely focus on more unconventional routes.
As much as I love all the Europeans on our team (btw we are adding an Austrian flag in goggin next year) just because weâre doing well over there doesnât mean we should stop recruiting canadians. Plus most of our europeans were already in north america playing juniors before they came-itâs not like thereâs no canadians on the same team right next to them we could get.
Ray said that the Latvians decided to come to miami together, and the Swedes started piling on once we got two. So maybe if we get more canadians, more will come. You would think with a Canadian coach this wouldnât be as much of an issue.
On the other hand I feel like weâve always had a lot of players from unconventional places even under blasi we had multiple californians, hoosiers, tennesseeans (?) new jerseians (?) and not a lot of canadians. There was 1 in '17-'18.
Sorry guys i feel like yapping today XD
The lineup tonightâŚyikes
Ugh, Barboliniâs out. Not good.
ETA: Heâs got a knee brace on. ![]()
On the pregame interview Bergeron said that he and ray wouldnât be out crazy long but not crazy short either but a brace does not sound good ![]()
1-0!
Tied up by CC and now a penalty kill coming up too
2-1 CC after the first. We donât look as sharp as last night, but not terrible. Just like weâre playing at altitude on short rest. ![]()
3-1 after two. We have 41 seconds of power play remaining to start the third.
Miami should start declining penalties.
We gotta win. It would be another 3 team weekend! Ladies hoops won.
I donât ever remember us ever having more than a couple Canadians on the roster in the Blasi era, it looks like right around the transition from old to new Goggin there may have been a year or two where we had four. Ryan Jones and Reilly Smith are the only impact Canadians Miami has had in the last 25 years.
Our best years were built on recruiting USHL kids from hometowns in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio.
4-2 final. Moulton had a beautiful shorthanded goal there at the end, but not nearly enough.
Moulton has been great this 2024
Berge has got to go, there has been 0 progress on this team in 5 years, let alone since 2015.
Hope Barbolini is back asap. He was missed in The 3 rd period Friday and entire game sat. He drives the offense, in my opinion He could have played on ANY Miami team.
