The 2024-25 season regular season thread

We were at LV Golden Knights vs Edmonton in April of ‘22.
The last regular season game. At least 50% of the arena was wearing Edmonton Gold.
The cold weather climates fans really show up at Golden Knights games. The same should hold true for UNLV games.
We had Martinez and Smith from Miami playing for Vegas.

They’d have an immediate rivalry game with Zona State and to a lesser degree Denver and CC. Like all G5’s, I’m sure that money is an issue, but them jumping to D1 seems like a no-brainer to me. They turned down a PAC 2.0 invite because the MWC backed up a truckload of money in their direction and moved the conference HQ to Vegas, but I think they’ll definitely be first pick if the B12 expands again. And God knows what they could accomplish if some of the casinos decide to get heavily involved in the NIL game.

If Miami played UNlV home and home regularly an annual Miami road trip weekend to Las Vegas could be huge!

Beat me to it. Looks like he’s currently tied for 25th in the OHL in points with 41 in 34 GP. Definitely an intriguing add!

Strangely enough, I found a tweet from 12/4 saying he committed after searching his name. Not sure I saw anything on him until today, however.

Coach-a-Delic has a great ring to it.

Finally wrapped this up this morning:

This is baaaaaaad

Hockey has become so much of an after thought lately. It’s sad.

At what point do we start to have conversations on whether it’s prudent for Miami to continue to play division 1 hockey? It’s not exactly a cheap sport and we literally aren’t even competing and haven’t for a decade. Has a Miami sport ever had a 10 year stretch as bad as hockey is having? Screw not being last place, we just hope to win a game.

Obviously we have an expensive facility smack dab in the middle of campus so not actually gonna just drop hockey any time soon but what are we doing here?

With NIL and alums who have money plus hockey alums with money, we should be just fine. No reason we can’t bring in quality transfers. Not quite sure what our hook is. In football and basketball it’s very clear to me what our value prop is.

I’m very excited for the commits we have, just need it to result in some wins

The disappointing thing about our non- competitive league performance is that it appears the league is way down this year. Maybe only 2 teams make the tournament and no #1 seeds.

“Non competitive” is a nice way of saying it.

I’m hopeful the coach turns this around and gets some talent in the barn. But man it’s hard to give a sh!t about hockey right now. From someone with season tickets for years to barely remembering to check on the team. It’s been a long ride down. I do hope they can make me care again some day but not looking like this season.

Huge addition. He was expected to be a 3rd-4th round pick, but slipped with some size concerns. I’ve struggled to give hockey much attention this year. There’s a solid culture being built, but the results are rough. I think next year could be surprisingly competitive.
