Sun Belt

One heck of a day for the Sun Belt.
Marshall beats Notre Dame.
App State beats Texas A&M.
Georgia Southern beats Nebraska.

Georgia State was also tied with UNC into the fourth quarter before losing by 7.

Meanwhile South Alabama handily beats Central Michigan. Leading 38-10 before giving up two late scores at Mt. Pleasant.

Population and demographic changes tilting towards Sun Belt states and away from Midwest cannot be ignored.

A lot of talent and fewer FBS schools in the sunbelt states is clearly having an impact.

Very interesting.

The Fun Belt made an argument yesterday that it might very very be an emerging power conference. New member JMU has also had quite a start to the season. Louisiana spotted EMU 14 points yesterday and then outscored them 49-7 in the second half. Coastal has started 2-0 with a win over Army in werk one.

On the other had, the MAC looked pedestrian - with two losses to FCS programs.

Interestingly enough, CCU had one of the weaker results for the conference yesterday, even with its win. Gardner-Webb was hanging with Coastal right up until the end.

True. But they’re still 2-0 with a win over a good Army team and nobody in the Belt actually LOST to an FCS team.

Sure. I’m not ragging on them. I was just saying going into the day, one would have figured CCU may have had the easiest game and they had to fight for a win while a lot of the conference was making a major statement.

Georgia Southern’s QB Kyle Vantrease was the starter at Buffalo the past few seasons:
