Suder, Woolfolk, Byers, Elmer, Skaljac All MAC Teams

An all-MAC starting five is almost beyond belief, especially after losing Ipsaro when he looked like our best player at points early in the season.

This might be the first time ever where the honorable mention team is better than the teams above it.

Suder our first POY since Bramos?

I wasn’t expecting Suder for POTY. But it makes sense given where this team ranks among all regular seasons in MAC history. The fact that the entire starting 5 is included in the all-conference listings shows that this truly is a team.

Shammah Scott on the third team and he doesn’t even start, no?

Seriously. The HM team is stacked.

You know who didn’t make All-MAC?

Aidan Hadaway

Posted this in the other thread, but I’ll share my thoughts here as well.

Woolfolk not being all mac defense is a fucking travesty, but that’s the only snub I see. Suder POTY (which I wasn’t expecting) sort of makes up for it, but by every advanced metric, Woolfolk is the best defensive player in the league.

Also, no all freshmen for Kirby and Perry, but I wasn’t really expecting that. Perry’s really only come on lately and Kirby barely played half our games. Not to mention there was a really good freshmen class in the MAC this year.

Evan Ipsaro would have been on one of these ALL MAC teams if not for his injury. Let’s not forget his contributions.

I guess this proves the MAC is better all around. But a ranked team only getting one first team player and Akron getting two is bs.
Still, I honestly think the honorable mention team is possibly the second best team. Like that starting lineup would win a ton of games.

Nathan Claerbaut over Woolfolk on all defense is a robbery of epic proportions. I know advanced stats aren’t the end all be all and there is some eye test, but the advanced stats on Nathan don’t even say he’s a good defensive player, let alone one of the best in the conference.

What a fucking joke.. I’m so angry for Woolfolk. He consistently wrecked teams on defense in ways that only show up in the analytics. It was never flashy, but if you dragged Woolfolk into a PNR you turned it over or had to restart your set.

Anyone who watched Miami games and saw what happened when Antwone left the floor should have recognized how impactful he was. Certainly all 12 other MAC coaches took advantage of that fact when he had to sit. I’m actually flabbergasted the coaches wouldn’t vote him in. If this was a media vote, I’d get it, but these coaches broke down tape, game planned for Miami, and certainly attacked us differently when he was on the bench.

They don’t release it, but I’d also be very curious on what coaches voted for Pete vs. Tavari. I would almost certainly have expected Tavari to win a media vote, so getting that nod from the coaches is a big sign of respect for Suder. Tavari would have been a worthy win as well, that guy is a total dog. Great player and I’m sure he feels a bit slighted on that award.
