Steele’s quiet ritual

Good article below. After seeing him do this at the game in Jacksonville vs UNCG, I thought it was interesting. Now I know why.

Good read…thx for posting!

Most coaches do this during the 1st period of warmups to see if they can pick up on anything individuals are doing, particularly if they’re moving well.

These days with the fans showing up early someone’s gonna be like “dude, get out of my seat.”

Edit: doh. Tom Archdean made this joke already. Yellow.

Already happened the past 2 home games. He said where he normally sits there were fans already in those seats

I guess that’s a good problem to have.

After this year’s success, Steele should get a nice pay day from bigger program. I’ll hate to see him go, but certainly will not blame him.

After all the great things he has been saying about Miami in general, I think it would be embarrassing to leave immediately after the season. Nevertheless we need to reward him for a job well done.

As others have stated previously here, Steele is not likely to be motivated by money per se, but at the same time he is obviously a very competitive guy, and no doubt would probably like to prove he can be a winner at a high profile program. To me that challenge is more compelling to him than just the money.

Perhaps his wife’s strong Cincinnati ties will prevail and help keep him here, but I am guessing it sure would help to break ground on a new Arena, up his pay and especially the pool of $$ for his assistant coaches. And do it all quickly.

When he left X he was making 1.6 million per annum. Right now he makes less than 400k. If he is inclined to seek more money, the Redhawks will not be able to match even a low level big school’s salary offer.

Thank you. We all know this.

Let’s worry about it later.

This is yet another example of “shit not worth thinking about that will all work out fine in the end.” Anytime I see this I’m gonna post this clip. It’s also not worth thinking about, but it’s probably the greatest thing I’ve ever found online.

Qué bueno!

I’m pretty sure she called Chucky a little f’er. Am I right?

I understand based on history that Miami is unlikely to pay Coach Steele $1mil+. I disagree though with the comment that MU “can’t” pay him in that range. Miami leadership (Sayler, Crawford, board member) have said multiple times in the last few weeks that the national attention Miami is getting would have cost millions of $$ to get via advertising. They are connecting potential sustained success to a real benefit to the university. I’m not so sure that efforts aren’t being made to shock the rest of the MAC with a new package for Travis - if they are smart and don’t just want to wait 25 years in-between runs like this, they’ll find another $750k or more in the budget.

The obvious missing piece here that everyone is aware of, but doesn’t want to say, is that the national attention from sports success doesn’t drive millions of dollars in value.

Miami’s primary marketing audience is high school students looking for where to go to school. Targeted advertising to them is much cheaper and more effective than banking on the Flutie Effect

Thank you. I’m enjoying the hell out of this run, but don’t let it cloud thinking on this front. I’ll refrain from posting (again) the Knight Commission meta-study of the “Flutie effect,” but it’s easy enough to find online.

Suffice it to say that the most direct way to use $750,000 to improve Miami’s recruiting, admissions selectivity, and yield would be to hire and fund travel for three additional full-time admissions officers to visit high schools out of state.

This is true, but also discounts the increase Miami can charge for future revenue generators..including sponsors in the arena, and on social media. There’s hopefully a nice incentive bonus in our Adidas contract for making the tourney. The exposure counts

But this season does make it easier to go to Brian Niccol, who we know is a Miami basketball fan who has given substantially recently AND makes a base salary of $100m a year (before you even get to stock compensation), and ask for an investment into the program.

Or others who have enjoyed similar success as him.

Indiana state was reportedly offering Schertz close to a million a year to try and keep him. If the sycamores can, I’m sure we can find some pockets.

But again, I don’t think salary is going to be what keeps Steele here. Facility upgrade, assistant salary pool, and NIL rev share commitment. If Sayler can find the donors to make those look like an A10 school, we’ll be in position to make Miami look as attractive as possible.

Anyways, let’s enjoy the once in a lifetime season and the rest will go as it does. As Steele has said about our season many times, control what you can control and don’t worry about the rest.
