St. Francis Dropping to DIII

=>Fresh off making the Big Dance, St Francis is riding the wave of momentum all the way to DivisionIii!

The trend has been to move up to Division I. In the post portal, NIL, House decision world, will this be the beginning of schools starting to leave Division I?

=>Word must have got out to the players because entire team is in the portal:

What in the name of Will Felder is going on there?

No athletic scholarships in D3. Unless St. Francis was going to provide all of these guys with academic scholarships how could they afford to stay?
No NIL to boot.
This is a team that won their conference and played in the NCAA this year.

=>Technically D3 can get NIL money. No rule against it.

But yeah, there is no NIL money.

Kent must be pissed. Now the Flashes need to find another FCS team they can’t beat.

Did they lose that game? Good grief!

Don’t worry, mrgredhawk. I read your post about this, 6 hours ago.

Clearly underestimated the news being worthy of its own MHT thread

All active student athletes get their athletic scholarships through the end of the 27-28 academic year (they have to forfeit remaining eligibility to continue the scholarship after that).

But D1 athletes want to play D1 athletics so not a big surprise they’re all transferring.

[csb] I saw St Francis play at Chicago State this year. [/csb]

=>I saw St Francis play Alabama State this year (First Four at UD ARENA) in what appears to be their last game is division 1 school.

Might be at NESCAC schools…

Wasn’t every lacrosse player assigned to an investment bank or private equity firm even before NIL was formalized?

I work with an alum. It sounds odd, but like 60-70% of St. Francis’s enrollment is athletes, and they were DI (including FCS football I believe) in all sports that they offered. This completely came out of nowhere, the athletes were informed 30 minutes before the press release. There is actually a decent group of very loyal alums with money, who were pouring money into the NIL collective that started 2 days ago. None of them knew this was about to happen.

Pretty much so! There was a lot of former player money coming into hockey from Wall Street, too.

=>12 players in the portal…
