There is a trend in our 3 losses. The trend is that we got beat because of our opponents 3 point shooting. Xavier was 10 for 24 for 41%. Western Kentucky was 13 for 24 for 54%. Purdue was 8 for 11 for72%. On the year our opponents are shooting 37%. In some of the other games like App State and Dayton ( although we did a great job on Wolf)the opponents had plenty of open threes but they missed them. Still, 37% is a pretty high percentage in women’s basketball.
So first you have to examine how the girl’s are getting open. Possible issues which occur to me are that when we press or when the opponent runs a fast break our transition defense is not locating the girl they are guarding quick enough. Also, we do a good job of helping out and doubling up defensively when the ball goes inside, but are we getting back to our girl fast enough if the ball goes back outside. A third thing might be do we need some work on closing out on the three point shooters so that there is more pressure on the shooter.
I don’t know for sure what the issue is, but I do think on the year this has been a weakness and probably is correctable.
