IIRC, Steele played Cooper at SG last year the first few games too. Seems like his plan to get players playing time without the pressure of playing PG and driving the offense.
Alright, I took a peek at the advanced stats, and theyâre interesting. They havenât updated from the game today, though.
Totally fair. Although Ipsaro was very much a scorer and facilitator pre injury last year.
All I would say is that today we didnât need it, but on most nightsâ zeros across the board from our pg/combo guards isnât going to get it done.
where do you get these stats from? What does HKM% mean? Thanks for sharing.
I get them from CBBAnalytics.com. Itâs a service some NCAA staffs use, but they have a âuserâ tier thatâs cheaper than what they charge college programs.
HKM% is Hakeem percentage, named after Hakeem Olajuwon. Itâs the percentage of opponent possessions that end with that player getting a block or steal. So 10.1% of Miamiâs defensive possessions end with Elmer getting a block or steal.
The percentiles are compared against other D1 players at the same position against D1 competition.
I had Squawk on the Street on CNBC tracking the market. They were talking about sports investing. They segued into NIL and college athletics, and the background shots were the Miami v Sienna game. Some good (albeit small) publicity.
Jive - very interesting stats- are their similar stats re offense- productivity of a player while he is in the game v opposition. On a related note are their other stats on deficiencies of a player - t/o 's per minutes played, shots attempted but blocked, fouls committed per minutes played etc ?
Iâm no expert on these advanced stats, but assuming green or greenish is good and pinkish is bad, Elmer is clearly our best player on both O and D. And Suder is pretty good on O but not so good on D. Again, my simplistic way of looking at this. But I could be completely misinterpreting this!!
Am I wrong in thinking those charts do a better job of classifying offensive production than they do the defensive side?
I canât figure out where it shows how good of an on-the-ball defender the player is, or how effectively they switch, or how often they become out of position when they are unsuccessful on a steal or block attempt⌠leading to an easy bucket for the player they were guarding.
Also, I do believe Elmer is our most important defender, so maybe the chart overall is the indicator I was looking for?
These are on/off stats. Essentially how the team numbers change with a given player on/off the court. I recommend taking these with a grain of salt since multiple subs are usually made at once.
On/Off for Offense
On/Off for Defense
There are! I know you said turnovers/min played, but TOV% is (in my opinion) a better metric. Aka, what percentage of possessions used by a player end in a turnover. It gives a good idea of how frequently a player turns it over while normalizing for pace. Check the ball control and usage section in the player box above.
You probably need multiple stats to try to build out an idea. I know there are websites that will break down possession by possession outcomes with player X guarding on ball, but they charge big money. The best I can give is some on/off opponent shooting data.
iThat totally makes sense. Thanks Jive.
