I know this is a sports message board, but I want to credit the Miami Men’s Glee Club for their creativity in fundraising. The College of Creative Arts (CCA) is very underfunded at Miami. Glee Club sort of falls under that umbrella. I’m cutting and pasting from an email I just received from them. (At my daughter’s request I have donated to them in the past year. She is friends with a couple of them.)

Serenade Your Sweetheart with a Singing Telegram!**

:heart_with_arrow: Send your Valentine a personalized singing telegram by the Miami University Men’s Glee Club! Show your support for the Glee Club and at the same time send your Valentine a special gift. How does it work?

  1. Complete the Glee Club Singing Telegram form and donate $50 to the Miami Men’s Glee Club’s New Guy Fund by Wednesday, Feb. 11. (The New Guy Fund helps new members, with financial needs, purchase concert attire and attend tours.)

  2. Select a song excerpt (roughly 60 seconds) you would like, performed by the Miami University Men’s Glee Club. :musical_note: Options are:

• Let Me Call You Sweetheart (Recorded in 2025)

• My Girl - The Temptations (Recorded in 2025)
• You are My Sunshine (Recorded in 2025)
• Still the One (Recorded in 2026)
• The Longest Time (Recorded in 2026)

  1. While filling out the donation form, let us know WHO you would like us to personalize the email to, THEIR email so we can send it, as well as WHICH SONG you would like.

  2. On Saturday, Feb. 14, your valentine will receive a personalized email with their song. The purchaser will also receive an email copy of the song.

Listen, I’m a degenerate and make no bones about it so I want you to read this with that in mind. Having Glee club sing let me call you sweetheart might sell here or there, but having them sing songs with crazier lyrics would perform way better. Put another way, I’d pay them $100 to sing Put ‘em on the glass to my sweetheart. It would be amazing. Will never happen but hey, that’s showbiz.

Or, how about sending one to an ex-girlfriend / ex-fiancee / ex-wife and have them sing: “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling”

Suggest it. My guess is for the right donation they will sing whatever you want. Seriously.

My preference would be “Rock Me” by Muddy Waters! If you aren’t familiar with it, look up the lyrics!

It would be great to have the Glee Club sing requests, but you cannot legally make money by performing songs that are not in the public domain, hence the old chestnuts like “Let Me Call You Sweetheart.”

What if you take a song like “Let me call you sweetheart” but you change sweetheart to say “GimpMaster?” Would that steer clear of the trouble? If so, I’d prolly still be a candidate.
