Shawnee State adds football and moves to D-II

Shawnee State (Portsmouth, Ohio) will move from NAIA to NCAA D-II. Will join the Mountain East Conference and will be adding football in 2028.

Trivia question.
What Miami basketball player transferred from Shawnee State?

Answer after the commercial break.

???

Was it Swoop?

Rodney HADDIX II?

Al Watkins. One of Darrell Hedric’s first transfers. Quick slasher, brought speed to a team that needed it. Don’t know about Haddix?

Thanks for playing. Except Yellow, who made a mockery of the contest.

I remember Al well.

Al and Craig Tubbs were a pretty good backcourt. Lisath helped out as well/

Of course Big George…Well…He certainly has…How can I put this…

Gone down a different path!

I didn’t mock you. I made a guess at a time no one else even dared to. I put myself out there. So fine. I was wrong. But at least I tried. And that’s what matters.

Ps, yesterday I played golf. Shot an 85. On a par 5, which I never reach in reg, I decided F it, I’m gonna hit dog off the deck. These rascals I got paired with mocked me but I was like “who cares, I never reach when I play sensible. I’m doing it.” I absolutely pured it and hit it like a million yards past the green. In essence, a fail. But so gloriously fun.

I was in Assembly Hall in Bloomington for Spider Watkins first game. It was also the first game for highly touted IU freshman Isiah Thomas. On Thomas’ first trip down the court Watkins stripped him and broke away for a layup. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the game.

So didn’t all 3 of those guys play basketball in Portsmouth before coming to Miami?

I believe you are right!

Tubbs - 4th in 1st row.
Lisath - 3rd in back row.

And Scot Taylor (two places from Lisath) was a walk-on.

Wow, they were our go-to when I was a student. Didn’t realize they were still in business.
