Sat next to Jeff Boals at breakfast

Sat next to Jeff Boals and another coach at breakfast this morning in Indianapolis. I probably wouldn’t have written all this down, but considering his friend told me to go fuck myself after I paid for his meal, told him it was courtesy of Travis Steele, and that he’d never dance in our locker room again, I figured it was interesting enough to share.

  • He is really unhappy about the lack of financial support he’s getting. He kept saying that the school is financing his team like they are satisfied being an 8th place team in the MAC. His friend said Jay Wright couldn’t coach this OU team above 6th in the conference and Boals agreed; I’m sure his players would be delighted to hear that.
  • In terms of some specifics, he said the total revenue share his team received this year was $600,000 (i.e., 50% of $1,200,000). Not sure how that stacks up with the rest of the conference.
  • He apparently fielded a $750K offer to head back to OSU as an assistant but declined it to stay at OU. He made reference, and compared himself to, the coach at Campbell who just left for a job at Louisville citing lack of institutional support.
  • Aidan Hadaway need a therapist. Least shocking thing I’ve ever heard.
  • They already have a portal “commitment” from a 6’9 Serbian that his staff has never even met. Can we get a legality check on that?

There was a lot more minutiae. But the central theme of the whole breakfast was his general dissatisfaction with his AD and the President and the notion that, barring a miracle, he doesn’t have what he needs to be competitive at OU.

Boals asked for my name after telling me to go fuck myself. Maybe he’ll report me to Principal Steele.

I imagine it was so much better than that. So much better.

Whatever Boals makes at OU, (reportedly $581,000), it probably beats what his college degree could have earned him in the private market…

Too bad these clowns showed why they are where they are. Who needs “friends” like the coach was hanging with.

The fact that Aidan Hadaway’s last moment as an active player inside the Convo was being dragged off by teammates/assistants while watching Miami celebrate being 31-0 was the perfect way to say bye to that loser.

Didn’t he finish his career in general by getting a technical in their conference tournament loss?

Yep

Mediocre coaches whining about the lack of institutional support (even if the concerns are valid) is probably a pretty common sight at the Final Four…

It’d be a large group but therapy might work… allocate rooms based upon current salaries or states of mind.

I would like this post more if it was titled “I shat next to Jeff Bowles” and it was about a basketball conversation you had with him between the stalls. I guess maybe next year.

I think you have an idea for a podcast. Between the Stalls - nothing but the straight **** from coaches.

What a difference a decade makes. Back in early 2016 we were still abysmal in football/basketball with hockey on the decline, OU was almost always competitive in revenue sports. Fast forward to 2026; they lost their coach to Charlotte then fired his predecessor on shaky ground while basketball has devolved to mediocrity, we’re not perfect but at least we aren’t a joke.

Yes! This is maybe what I am supposed to be doing with my life. I mean, I’m already doing this with non famous people so maybe I step up?
I thank you for this.

My question is why did he tell you to fuck yourself? What was so inflammatory that you said? Sounds like a douche, but for my entertainment, I would love some additional context.

Ummm…ya. We need more details.

It escalated after my initial comments when the guy next to him said “are you really going to talk shit to a coach right now?”

I told him I didn’t appreciate his comments about the crowds at Millett. He said he didn’t make any. I corrected him. I also told him I didn’t like his dancing in our locker room. His friend told me to fuck off. Then argument ensued for about 45 seconds before I left. The only real thing I remember was his friend calling me a “bandwagon” UConn fan. Which, my college credits from UConn notwithstanding, is a pretty funny thing to say for anyone that knows a single thing about me or how I direct my energy.

Anyway, I don’t like Boals beyond him being the coach of our rival. I don’t like the cheap shot he took at the Millet crowd last year and I’ve never cared for his dancing shtick. I also don’t think he’s particularly bright if he’s sitting in a VERY crowded restaurant during Final 4 weekend in the middle of the host city’s downtown airing out his grievances about his roster and administrative support to his breakfast company.

Did you at least do the Pete Suder wave when you left?

What did Boals say about Millett/crowds at Millett last year?
