The Fighting Cardiologists visit Millett Sunday for a 1 PM game. ESPN+ and the worldwide Redhawk Radio Network. Another edition of “Roundball on the Sabbath”. Defiance at home on 12/30, then it’s all Maction!
Sacred Heart (also known as Pioneers) is 4-7 overall, 1-1 in the MAAC after losing their first home game last week to Albany. They also earlier lost to Quinnipiac, with Ryan Mabrey scoring 9 for Q.
Not tall, SH looks to be a guard-centric balanced scoring team, led by Joey Reilly, Raheem Solomon and frosh standout Tanner Thomas.
Famous SH alums include John “Cliffy”Ratzenberger and Kevin “Pump You Up” Nealon. And pro wrestler Romeo Roselli!
Known for his appearances on WWE RAW, you probably knew him as part of the tag team “Heart Throbs”.
There have been a few posts here on MHT.com dissing the Holy Cardiologists as an opponent, sometimes lumping them with Bethany and Defiance. While I believe Miami will win (probably rather easily), Sacred Heart is a legit D-1 opponent. They’re a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), and if you know anything about mid-major college basketball you’ll know that the MAAC’s NCAA tournament history is full of 1st round upsets (or near misses) and a few deep runs, probably more so than the MAC. So let’s not view Sacred Heart as some lower division program, they’re not. In fact, I’d like to see more non-conference games against MAAC opponents. Now, back to your regularly scheduled program.
I’ll ask you not to besmirch my good ingredient brand. I don’t like us playing cup cake D3 games. I got no problems with any D1 game. And I don’t know why we can’t schedule a tune up for a Vermont against a low level D1. I think it would do more for us.
