Per Ron Harper’s Twitter, Joe Barry passed away over the weekend.
RIP Legend
Love and Honor to Joe Barry.
I loved him as a color man on the radio
RIP He was great
I will always think of him as part of “the triad” - Joe, Jerry Pierson and head coach Darrell Hedric, season after season. That was a time when schools scouted each other live so for many games one was on the road and there were only two coaches on the bench.
He was extremely nice to me the couple of times I talked to him. I was shocked when he remembered my name after only one conversation. RIP Joe.
I played golf with Joe a couple times and he was the best. Always a story and a smile. It’s a great way to go thru life.
Rest well, Joe. We’ll miss you here but know you and other Miamians will be watching and cheering from above
RIP. Fun guy. Great interview. Loyal.
I could go on and on.
RIP Joe.
RIP. I always loved Coles’ “as Joe Barry used to say…” in the pregame interviews.
There is a strong bond with a college team’s broadcasters and the fans. They’re our eyes, ears, and the narrators for highly emotional and exciting times, especially dating back to a time when 99% of our games were not streaming on ESPN+. We were extremely lucky to have Joe as our analyst. He was one of the main Miami basketball voices from my time as a student all the way through his retirement. As a result, he was also one of the main voices of the university. It’s been years since he called games and I can still hear his voice in my head. And in my mind, his voice was and is Miami basketball. He seemed to bring joy to everything he did. And my thoughts are with his family.
RIP to a true legend.
And no matter how much time has passed, I will always remember that “stranger things have happened…” than Cedrick Middleton bricking the front-end of a one-and-one on a Saturday night in Cleveland.
Well said.
