If the deal is that teams like the Dodgers and Yankees and Braves have revenue streams that other teams don’t, it seems to me the solution is robust revenue sharing rules, not salary caps. What makes professional athletes, all alone as a class, the one form of labor we tolerate salary caps for? No one thinks the Cleveland Clinic should be barred from hiring a world-class cardiologist because they’ve spent all the money they’re allowed to spend on physician salaries.
The NFL is the strongest, most popular sports league. What do they have? Revenue sharing.
The NFL also has a salary cap & salary floor.
The lack of a cap/floor and strong rules on revenue sharing have lead to gaming the system, it’s why so many teams had ownership stake in their RSN’s. The Diamond Sports bankruptcy has probably pushed the owners towards the cap.

So as far as I can see the Reds with 7 expiring contracts made one move trading Lowe to the Guardians for 19 year old RHP Alejandro Rivera. With a 3.06 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and strong 70-to-17 strikeout-to-walk ratio, Alejandro Rivera is an intriguing low-level pitching prospect who just recently made his Single-A debut at the age of 19.
Either no one wanted what the Reds were selling, the asking price was too high, or Krall doesn’t know what the hell he is doing thereby contributing to the first 2 possibilities. I do not want to see Ivan Johnson’s sorry ass in the OF. Call up Hector Rodriquez soon and see what he can do.

The NFL is the most “fair” financial system in the sense that no single team can dominate financially and every city has a realistic chance at financing a contender (cheap owners notwithstanding), but it only works because it’s the biggest league in the largest economy with a sport that prints money. The economics and power structure of baseball make an equivalent system practically impossible.
I’m not going to shill for owners because they’re mostly rich assholes that don’t have an interest in the game/fans beyond what impacts the bottom line. That doesn’t absolve the players or MLBPA however, Skubal playing the victim and saying “sucks to suck” at the other 29 teams in the game is an awful look.
I would counter that the NFL only works because the tv/media deal is league negotiated.
Green Bay gets the same payout as New York.
That is not the case in baseball where most media rights deal are local.
Cincinnati will never be able to compete with the LA tv deal.
MLB has tried to counter this with some type of revenue sharing but it is woefully inadequate as team budgets show.
That’s certainly true, but the nature of a football league with only 17 games per team, appeal across virtually the entire US, and unmatched ratings for premium matchups is able to make it work. There’s no way Jerry Jones would be down with revenue sharing if he owned a baseball club.

Usually when you start thinking the Reds are going to do something, they have another losing streak. But they have been getting some good clutch hitting as of late with decent pitching, and they kept Stephenson who is starting to come around.
About 5 games out of last wildcard spot I think w a quick look at the standings.

Too bad we don’t have another game against the A’s. If we did we could be playing for a four game sweep tomorrow and it would be 1990 all over again except that today’s version of the A’s is basically a AAA team.

While most of those games were against bad teams that’s what you’re supposed to do to them so that’s good to see, it’s certainly an improvement.
At 4 games out the wildcard is not unthinkable. Over the next three weeks or so they play every team ahead of them in the WC standings except Philly. It’s a big ask based on how the season has gone to rack up a ton of wins over that stretch but it’s an opportunity. Then comes September and whoa nelly what a schedule. A 13 game stretch against Milwaukee and LA followed by series with Atlanta and the Cubs. They could very well get into a WC spot and then drop most if not all of those games.
Reds have proven again and again that they cannot beat the Brewers. That September schedule sure looks like a deal killer to somehow obtain a wildcard spot.
I’d imagine Burns gonna be shut down soon. Probably the same for Mis in Milwaukee as he’s at at his innings total from 2025, and I’m sure they want him available for the playoffs.
