Another tough team for Miami WBB after a one point loss Saturday at UMass. Madi Morrison of CMU can score in bunches. Central Michigan is 16-8 overall and sit in fourth-place in the MAC standings at 10-3. The Chippewas are coming off of back-to-back wins over Akron (86-79) and Western Michigan (70-67). Madi Morison leads the conference in scoring (20.1 ppg.) and is joined by Ayanna-Sarai Darrington in double figures (14.8 ppg.).

Bluesman- I could not watch the U Mass game ( VD commitments )- first miss this season- how did UMass score the winning shot? A lay up with 3 seconds left? The box score does tell the story again in part- no help from the bench and our starting 5 playing too many minutes- how will they hold up in the MAC Tourament? I like Box a lot but his thin roster and weak bench have to be fixed next year.
UMASS inbounded the ball to the right baseline, Scalia guarding the player passing the ball in, Tamar guarding the recipient. Tamar in pretty good defensive position, defending Mckayle against a drive, but the ball was thrown over her head to a cutting UMASS player. Devries was on her side, Tretter also sideways. So neither Miami post player was in good position to defend the shot and it was a fairly easy shot.
6-5 CMU at first timeout. Singer and Devries both with 2 early fouls
13-8 CMU after one quarter. With Singer and Devries on the bench most of the quarter Miami’s offense is miserable. Singer also on the sideline in some Sort of back brace.
In 20 minutes of combined play Miami’s bench did not score a point. Box started both singer and DeVries to start the second quarter in Miami now leads 1513. Singer has three assists in just five minutes of play and Devries has three points.
32-23 Miami at the half. With Singer and Devries in to start the second quarter Miami went on a 9-0 run. Then both picked up their third fouls.
6 Miami bench players have played 29 combined minutes. They scored 0 points. They need to contribute offensively second half.
37-29 Miami with 3:34 to go 3rd quarter. Miami losing the boards by 13 and only shooting 32%. Probably have missed 4 easy layups this quarter. Could be up double digits.,
49-37 Miami heading to 4th quarter. But Singer and Devries both with 4 fouls. Box left Singer in when she picked up her 4th fouls and she promptly stole the ball and got her 8th assist. Miami bench still scoreless. No player on CMU has more than 2 fouls.
I started watching midway through the third, and the team defense has been solid.

58-44 with five minutes to play. Gonzalez off the bench has come up big defensively 4th quarter. Tretter now has 4 fouls too. Singer and Devries haven’t been in 4th quarter. Defense keeping Miami ahead.
Singer and De Vries in foul trouble the whole game, Scalia 3/13, bench 0/11, and still leading by 14 against the 3rd place team in the conference.
DeVries fouls out on a fairly soft blocking call, and Bake is chuckling about the fan behind the Miami bench who is just wearing out the ref about it.
Miami wins and moves to 12-1 in conference and 21-5 overall. 65-53. Outstanding defense by Miami.
