Prediction Thursday: do ‘hawks feast on BUGs?

Yeah, they do. A bit of a low scoring game as we get used to a new QB, but our defense rises to the occasion. 21-10 MU.

It wasn’t a thing of beauty but a win is a win. Miami’s D shut down the Falcons for most of the first half. Miami played conservatively on offense but moved the ball enough to get a couple of field goal attempts. Unfortunately only one of those kicks was good, so despite controlling the game, Miami only had a 3-0 lead. Caleb Heavner only had one bad throw for the entire game but it was a pick that gave BG the ball just outside the red zone late in the half. The Falcons scored to go up 7-3 and I was tempted to head into the half with the deficit. But the Falcons gave plenty of cushion, so a couple of easy passes moved the ball up the field. Heavner then found an open Braylon Isom on the sideline to get the ball inside the red zone. A couple of players later, Heavner found Maleek Huggins for the 2-yard TD with to take the 10-7 lead with just 6 seconds remaining in the half.

It would not take long to extend the lead. Lynel Billups-Williams took the 2nd half kickoff 101 yards to the house and Miami had 14 points in just 16 seconds of football. BG did get a field goal and had a chance to tie it early in the 4th… but Malcolm McCain stopped a QB scramble on 4th and 6 a yard short and Miami took over at the 2. The offense drove the ball enough to get past midfield and the ‘Hawks downed the punt at the BG 5. On the first snap of the drive, Brach Rice recorded the sack in the end zone to provide the final margin.

Heavner had a 130 yards passing, a TD, and an INT. He also had 44 yards on the ground. Lazaro Rogers had a team-high 52 rushing yards. Isom was the leading receiver with 41 yards. Eli Coppess was a menace on defense, with 5 tackles for loss.

Mrs Redhawks97 and I are loading up the buggy for the harrowing drive up US27. We tailgate in the Millett East lot in space 70.
