Your Miami RedHawks, undefeated in the MAC, host the Falcons in a potential trap game. BG is 7-10, 2-3 in the MAC. They lost at home to EMU Saturday.
Jamai Felt led the Falcons, logging a full stat line with a team-high 10 rebounds and eight points while adding a career-high four steals and his third game this season with four blocks. Marcus Johnson led BGSU scorers with 18 points, including three triples, while Trey Thomas added 16 points for the Falcons.
BG has wins over Niagara, New Mexico St. and WMU. They lost by 3 to Akron.
In lieu of listing famous BG alums (Orel Hershiser and more hockey players), I was asked to pass on this public announcement:
“BGSU is not the STD capital of the world.
The rumor that the University is overflowing with STDs has been around since Nov. 11, 1985, when The BG News reported that one in 10 female students on campus had tested positive for chlamydia.”
Todd Simon is in his second year at BG. He had a pretty successful first year, going 20-14, but has dropped to 7-10 this season. Simon is the modern type of super recruiter who tends to have a whole different team each season. Last year a couple of starters graduated and his two stars transferred to NC State and Southern Cal.
None the less, he has assembled a talented group again. So far they have been disappointing and have not really jelled. This is the usual starting lineup:
6-7 265 lb SR Marcus Johnson high school star from Akron transferred in this year from from DII. He is averaging 16.8 ppg, first in the MAC.
6-2 SR Derrick Butler, he transferred in this year from Central Michigan where he was a starter. He is averaging 14ppg.
6-2 Jr Javonte Campbell averages 13.9 .He transferred in this season from a junior College
6-2 SR Trey Thomas transferred in from Vanderbilt last season and spent much of the year injured. He is averaging 10.8
6-10 RSFR Jamai Fell was a hs recruit from the Bronx NY. He is averaging 5.9 RB and 1.5 Bl
BG has lost 6 straight games in Millett. Miami is on a 7 game winning streak for the first time in almost 20 years. Luke Skaljac returned from injury so we are back to our 9 man rotation.
Coming off a big road win Saturday, and we have another big road game coming up this Saturday. Hope we don’t look last BG. I think we win, but it’s closer then it needs to be.
Im so excited for this one. In past seasons a game like this would absolutely be a stumbling block but I think we keep it close and pull away at the end.
Rotations are a bit off. Sometimes the rotation late, sometimes the hedge isn’t getting back. Hopefully the media timeout is a good chance to get everyone on the same page. A few defensive possessions have been great. Woolfolk is getting to the rim at will.
