We’re quite a bit better than them, but there’s a lot of trap game warning signs here. We also always seem to beat them in the flukiest way possible. Wouldn’t be shocked to see it stay close.

Like an East German hooker, we step on the testes in our stilettos. 2 receivers go for 100 each and 2 RB’s get 100 rushing for MU. Brett throws 4td’s. We win 35 to 14
Here’s one prediction: the stands will be empty!
I think it will be close…BSU playing well as of late. I will take the Redhawks to win 30-24.
BTW the weather looks to be rainy with some wind. Decent temps tho. Could be a tough night to throw the ball.
P.S. last I saw we were a 12 point favorite.

I vote that Miami will come on top, Martin elects to pound the ground game with Mozee as a good candidate for player of the game. I’m sure a straw poll of the thread will agree with me.

Making the MAC great again.
I know the joke is that Ball State is really good at finding “Neu” ways to lose to Miami… but it would be nice if we could just beat them decisively and not need it to come down once again to BSU throwing a pick in the end zone, or having BSU get stuffed on 4th and 1, or oddly seeing the Cardinals choose to not go for it on 4th & 1, or needing Miami to block a late BSU FG attempt.
Let’s just cover the spread. That would be nice.

Ball State gives up a lot of passing yardage!
Miami 42 - Ball State 24
After a dismal 2-4 start where they gave up 60+ twice and squeaked by Kent by 1, Ball State finally played much better the past two weeks against decent opposition (Vandy & NIU)
I think 12 is too big a spread and I believe the weather will be a factor.
Miami wins 23-20 but doesn’t cover. Take the under.

Well, that was closer than I wanted it to be. Matt Salopek pulled in an interception on the second play of the game to set up a short field and Brett Gabbert hit Reggie Virgil on an RPO screen pass a few snaps later for the 9-yard strike to give Miami the early 7-0 lead. That was the longest play for Miami for a while. In fact, Gabbert’s next three completions went for -6 yards and he ended the first quarter with 3 yards passing and a TD. The rain and wind affected Miami’s receivers far more than Ball State’s receivers. Miami had 5 dropped passes (3 by Javon Tracy, including one that had it been pulled in, it probably would have been a long catch and run for a TD late in the first half) and Miami’s offense could get anything going. A Gabbert interception opened the floodgates (pun intended) and Ball State scored 17 unanswered points to end the half. The scoring streak included a 53-yard FG on the final play of the half. I highly doubt Ball State is hitting a 53-yarder in wind and rain.
Down 17-7, Kevin Davis turned things around quickly by returning the second half kickoff 94 yards for a TD. Just 10 seconds into the half, we had a 17-14 game. BSU then went on a lengthy 6-minute drive that stalled out near the goal line. The Cardinals added a field goal and BSU had the 6-point lead heading into the 4th. Then things became even crazier.
Miami drove down to the BSU 15 but Gabbert lost the ball on a sack. Miami’s D stood tall and forced a punt but Miami also went 3 & out, so Ball State got the ball right back. With 6:17 remaining, BSU went for the deep ball on first down and Caleb Tubbs intercepted and ran it back to the BSU 21. Five players later, Gabbert found Tracy (who made sure to secure this catch) for the 4-yard TD. 21-20, RedHawks. Ball State had 4:33 remaining to get a field goal and on 3rd & 8 Kadin Semonza found Braedon Sloan open over the middle for what should have been an easy conversion… but Salopek took a great angle and cut off Sloan. Although Salopek’s diving attempt didn’t result in a tackle, he stopped Sloan’s momentum and Ambe’ Caldwell knocked down the RB one yard short of the marker. BSU elected to punt and Miami looked to run out the clock but the Cardinals stuffed Jordan Brunson on 4th & 1 near the red zone. The Cardinals started driving, even picking up 26 yards on 4th & 9, and made it to the Miami 39 but 4 straight incompletions ended it.
MIA 7 0 7 7 21
BSU 0 17 0 0 20
Not mentioned yet: Keyon Mozee had 100 yards on 17 carries (including a 13-yarder to ice the game in the closing seconds) and Brian Ugwu earned POTG honors with 3 tackles and 2 sacks (both in the second half).
Gabbert finished 15/25 for just 70 yards with the 2 TDs and the INT. Mozee actually had the most receptions (4) but had a total of 0 receiving yards, which tells you the state of the passing game. Virgil was the only efficient receiver (3 catches for 38 yards and the TD with no dropped passes).
The offensive breakdown was weird: Miami had 70 passing yards and 173 rushing yards, while BSU had 270 through the air but only 62 rushing yards.
Can the game not be this close tomorrow? Can it be an easier win than this simulation? That would be nice. But given the recent games in this series, this seemed to be realistic.
