Postgame?

I am not finding a post game interview with Chuck Martin on the Miami website

Usually after home games there is a 15 minute interview with coach and a player - i never remember there not being one before

The lack of information is so frustrating- where was Finn? What was wrong with him? When did we know he wasnt playing? Obviously the gamblers knew way before I did. Is he still on the team? This was a huge game for winning the league and our most important player doesnt play and it is barely addressed

My son went to the game for 3 quarters and was super pissed about it. Remember Miami students (or at least their parents :winking_face_with_tongue:) fund this football team

Was it an ear infection? Or “where’s my NIL check-itis”?

(this is wild and reckless speculation as one does on a message board…)

“Is he going to get better?”

“We hope so, we are working on that.”

umm….

Was that question directed to Martin himself?

I have to say I agree with Chuck. The coaching staff did not have the team well-prepared to win this game. And the Offense failed to execute multiple times.

Yes.

He also indicated that Finn had been sick all week, probability high he wasn’t going to play, & Hesson had been practicing / part of gameplan as well.

Sick of his NIL situation

I listened to the postgame and didnt take Martins comments to be nefarious about NIL. I took it more like the medical team has been working hard to try and treat him

I don’t think it is an NIL situation. He got what he got and isn’t getting more. If he didn’t like it he shouldn’t have accepted it. And if he is pulling some AJ Brown stunt now to show his displeasure, we don’t need him on the team. Whether that is what is going on I have no idea.

I think Alex’s Decker comment is snowballing a bit. The frustration was more we spent a lot of our NIL ammunition to land Finn and that hasn’t paid off. Even outside last night he hasn’t played like the former MAC PoY he was sold as. I don’t think there is any money issue as he’s a 7th year senior. What he got is what he got.

As far as his illness, hard to judge how serious it was. As we all know parents aren’t the most unbiased or reliable narrators but there was gossip in Yager last night on how serious or not it was.

Think Finn has been a letdown most of the year. Overhyped and mostly under performed.

That said is that a product of the offensive scheme at Miami not being a great match for his skill set vs what he ran in Toledo that utilized his skills?

He was billed as a running QB and I think too many times staff didn’t use that talent all that well. Other times he seemed reulctant to pull it and run when Brunson got one yard up the middle on what seemed like a another damm delayed handoff. Could have been staff telling him be careful or could have been Finn not wanting to run that much or just plain bad reads.

I know Chuckles is really proud of his long time assistant coaching staff but I’ve about had enough with the OC after this year. They’re not going to get rid of Chuck so think maybe Sayler has to play bad guy and tell him he needs to clear out some of offensive coaches and get some new blood.

We’ve got some, what should be, pretty good HS QB’s on the roster. Need to develpe them as many have said here and maybe it’s a new offensive coach that’s the man to do it.

Hesson had all week to be ready and it was pretty sad. I know Toldedo had 2nd best D in the country but last night was woeful on the offense.

I’d argue he’s had 6 years. This guy split snaps in a bowl game and has been the primary backup for all of last season + this season.

I’m still too frustrated, having flown from NYC to Cincy and back in the last 24 hours, to post my full thoughts. However, it is clear that Hesson playing is a byproduct of Chuck’s preference to always roll with the “safe” option– the one who knows the system and what Chuck wants out of it. In the case of Hesson, he has woefully misgauged what Hesson is actually capable of doing within that system. It’s a coaching and roster management failure of the highest order.

I don’t think Hesson played a good game but I was there and I didn’t see open receivers. I also believe that two of our offensive linemen were overwhelmed on a consistent basis giving Hesson very little time to throw.

Finn has a tremendous ability to turn a failed play into a success. Plenty of times this season when 80% of quarterbacks would have been lying on their backs he got us a first down. He is not a remarkable pure thrower from the pocket.

When Hesson has some time and an open receiver he is more than serviceable in his ability to get it out and on target. Last night those opportunities were few and far between.

Might want to Google Greg Brooks, Jr, LSU, and Brian Kelly - an inner ear issue that went dreadfully wrong. Perhaps erring in favor of caution is quite prudent.

Agree entirely on our line people getting overwhelmed. I know some disagree, but our o line has been a source of disappointment for me. A shining example was the attempt at a flea flicker type of play. Our left tackle could not even slow down his assigned block. I actually like Chuck, and it seems to me he loves Miami until our offense is run better (pun intended) we will see more games like this. Get under center sometimes, use the large back in obvious situations, run some counter motion plays, utilize short, quick 6 or seven yard passing routes and discard the Hail Mary approach.

mygrry, if you have knowledge of an issue related to Mr. Finn and why he did not play yesterday very well. You should give some reason that we should believe your post is credible.

If not I think it is poor form to cast aspersions on one of our young men’s character.
