Pittsburgh Steelers 2026 Season Thread

As soon as he became a candidate I knew this was going to happen.

Would have preferred Chris Shula.

Me too. Steelers unwilling to look to the future

Plus might be no Rodgers. I don’t believe he like McCarthy much.

Wonder if some of the other candidates might have told them they weren’t interested. Otherwise, there was no reason to jump into a selection right now. I guess 9 and 8 here we come.

Brian Flores would have been my Second choice after Chris Shula.

Matt Patricia worked pretty well, so hopefully, Arthur Smith will more than adequately replace Brian Hartline (not the recruiting though).

Smith heading to the Bucks as offensive coordinator.

ESPN reporting the Steelers hope they can retain Rodgers now that they have McCarthy. Art Rooney II hired a coach to keep a 42-year-old QB who hasn’t been good for several seasons. He’s certainly not beating the failson allegations.

I’m also wondering if Shula saw what he would be walking into (no QB, aging overpriced defense, owner that’s stuck in the 70s) and said thanks but no thanks.

Certainly possible I suppose. It’d be a shame if he went to the Browns

I think the description of Uber coach is a good one for McCarthy. Gets his teams to the playoffs but quickly takes an Uber home from the playoffs. Instead of doing what has made them successful since 1969, youngish coaches, they go the retread geriatric route. I can’t believe Papa Rooney would approve of this.

Papa Rooney couldn’t be reached for comment.

Sorry Steelers fans, I saw McCarthy coach for awhile in Green Bay and dude was carried for years by prime Rodgers (then Dak). As someone tweeted out, this hire is like shitting your pants and thinking it’s fixed because you got a new shirt.
