Great article on one of Miami’s captains, Peter Suder and his quest for MAC POY.
“Suder’s ability to operate as an engine for a prolific offense, both as a scorer and playmaker, is what could win him the MAC’s most illustrious individual award. But he’s not a slouch defensively either. Suder’s a tremendous shot-blocker for a guard, ranking in the 83rd percentile nationally with a 1.7% block rate. He finishes possessions well as a defensive rebounder, too, with an 84th percentile-worthy 14.6% defensive rebound rate.”
Don’t tempt the woofing gods.
Suder eats woofing gods for breakfast!
Miami has had some talented players over the last 20 years, even some first team all-MAC’ers, but Suder is the first in a while that I feel really has a legit shot at being crowned PoY.
Very different game, but he’s definitely a talent we haven’t had since Pollitz (can’t believe he didn’t win PoY over Al Fisher in 07-08) and Bramos. Had Kraft stayed, he’d be in this conversation too. It was never gonna happen but man this team would have been unbelievable with Kraft and another year improved Potter.
Kam Craft left because nobody on HawkTalk spelled his name right
We’re lucky Eian Elmer stuck around ![]()
If Elmer added anything to his game over the off season, he could be first team all-MAC. Him not evening making 3rd team was an abomination by voters last year.
You talking about Cam Kraft?
Not picking one over the other here, but rarely do I remember games played by any MAC POY over stats. And perhaps it’s because in those years (even now) Kent seems to be on TV a lot. But Fisher had some outrageous games on TV, as I recall. Not saying that’s key to winning MAC POY, just saying his name conjurs up games in my mind, more than stats.
Head Coach Damon Stoudamire said in a press conference earlier this week that Craft is the best shooter he’s had on the roster since coaching at Georgia Tech.
"I think in Kam, we’ve got one of the best shooters in the country. I think that in terms of shooting, we haven’t had that since I’ve been here.”
For sure. At minimum Elmer was 3rd team last year. Stat sheet stuffer on both ends of court on a top team. The rest of the league coaches must not have HUDL accounts based on their votes.
Not saying it’s right, but third-team guys are usually lifetime achievement awards for 3-yr and 4-yr guys around the league. He’s recognized by coaches, w/o a doubt. I could easily see some 3/2 combination of Miami/Akron players on first team by the end of the season. Think both teams will be that dominant … unless UMass becomes the wildcard/darkhorse in the bunch.
Well I hope Stoudamire still has nightmares of Derrick Cross.
