I guess granola boy slept through CTH098: Critical Reasoning through Analysis of Facts & Figures too…
For familial reasons I’ve expounded upon at length, I have a lot of respect for OU and for how it serves Appalachian Ohio. But it remains a somewhat distinct institution from Miami. Miami is still more selective (middle 50% ACT is 25-31 vs 22-28 in Athens) and, for good or ill, far less focused on in-state students (48% of the freshman class vs 85% at OU).
I think it’s important to have both kinds of colleges available in our state system, and both deserve more support from the general assembly than they get.
All that said, Ohio University must be destroyed.
That’d be cool if the data wasn’t 2 years old, but one endowment is growing at 6.5% and the other at 16%. OU is the one with the smaller number. So with the time and growth numbers, can you guess which one is bigger today? Or is that math problem too hard for you?
Yeah, I’ve worked with OU grads twice when I was interning at Nationwide Financial. Neither got an offer back and I haven’t worked with another in my career. Zero in pharma. Zero in cybersecurity. Zero in the VC startup scene I’ve been working in the past 4 years. It’s never come up as a potential target in any campus recruiting meeting I’ve been in, and I’ve part of the campus recruiting teams at 2 Fortune 100 companies. My team is made up of grads from Cornell, MIT, Stanford, Virginia Tech, and Berkeley. I’ve worked with OSU grads, an Akron grad (great materials engineering), and a couple of Case Western grads, but no OU grads in my full-time career.
I guess we can cross FIN096: Compounding Interest and the Basics of Investment Growth off the transcript. What did granola boy do in his first years in Athens?!
Who knows. Maybe a seminar at the Ailes-Lauer Institute for Media Ethics and Gender Equality.
Actually, if the world sees OU at all its is as a branch campus - or extension program - of either WVU or Marshall.
Take it easy on the little guy…
