Don’t want to get too far ahead, but it feels like a 2007esque season could be brewing.
Tons of upsets, especially yesterday. Among the undefeated remaining power programs Texas’ QB is injured, Ohio St has played a super weak schedule and hasn’t looked great, Oregon had a couple early scares, Penn St’s offense is not good, and Coral Gables has needed referees to save them in two games so far. Would expect some more upsets.
The current Heisman frontrunner is a RB from Boise St and no reason to think he won’t keep putting up huge numbers as long as he stays healthy.
Also lots of potential for unusual programs to climb up the rankings. Iowa St will be favored in their next 5, which would get them to 10-0. Indiana will be favored in their next 3, which would get them to 9-0. Pitt-SMU looks likely to be a 7-0 vs 7-1 matchup, with smooth sailing for SMU the rest of the way if they can win. Army and Navy are both undefeated contenders for the G5 playoff spot.
