Other Games (Non-Miami College Football)

North Carolina Central upset Jackson State, spoiling Deion’s last game.

Good for NCCU.

Party tonight in Durham - and not for Duke! Yay Eagles!

Always a great day when a Duke athletics team loses!

For all our faults, at least we aren’t Florida, getting our ass kicked by a program with way less resources or prestige. After the first ten minutes yesterday I thought it’d end up 40-10.

Now watching the Mobile Bowl on TV wishing we got to play at their fancy new stadium in 2019 instead of the erector set on its last legs.

South Dakota State up 36-12 over visiting Montana State proving a grind it out ground game trumps a two-QB passing attack in a -18 wind chill on an icy field. In fairness, Bobcats running QB is in a boot today and not playing. Weather: Not the Bahamas!

Yeah for all the faults of playing in soccer stadium in Bahamas, for a low tier bowl at least it had great weather and was memorable for the players and coaches…just a shame we couldn’t pull it out.

The kid showed up from SF in time to come with me to the Myrtle Beach Bowl. Wearing my Red and White Miami fleece and my Washington Huskies hat and sitting in the UCONN Huskies section. Marshall still sucks!

EMU came back from being behind 13-0 to lead 30-13 with a minute left in the first half -out in the Smurf Turf Potato Bowl.

EMU leads 41-20 at the end of the 3rd.

Eastern has obviously just substituted/traded their offensive coordinator for ours on first and goal late in the 4th leading by 14. “Let’s surprise them and throw the ball”. Interception. What the hell are some of these people smoking?

Possible SJSU comeback squelched with an EMU INT with 1:30 left - Eagles leading by 14.

So Creighton finished 9-4 with a win at Arizona State and a bowl win against San Jose State. Martin finished 6-7 with a win at Northwestern and a bowl loss to UAB. Eastern Michigan is one of the toughest jobs in the entire FBS. Miami is one of the top two or three jobs in the MAC.

The equation is obvious: Martin=Mediocrity4Miami

Toledo Rockets vs. the Fighting Pool Boys of Liberty up next.

Nice win by Hurons over a 7-4 San Jose team…yet we lose to a 6-6 UAB team that was favored by up to two TD’s.
(probably based on their star RB McBride playing). Still, kinda sad we’d be such an underdog going in…

I’m still blown away by the pessimism about this loss. UAB is an inch from being top dog in CUSA. They beat the freezer pop who beat a power 5 and lost a close one at Arkansas. (Cost me big in pick ‘em) They had a wr and rb put up over 100 yards against us and had 2 great QB’s. Yet, we were right there. We need to rebound next year and if Chuck was sitting next to me at the dog track he’d say the same thing. I think we will. EMU is a great MAC product. I sorta love that the most resource deprived can compete well. Speaks volumes about the MAC’s ceiling as much as people like to knock it. Once we get a new podium…watch out!

Not dissing on UAB, but it still hurts to think that we were a 2 TD underdog to a 6-6 team and we are all seem pretty happy with playing them tight …myself included.

Remember when we were making fun of bottom dweller EMU for hiring a non-scholarship FCS head coach from Drake instead of the OC from Notre Dame?

This guy (me) picked us to win! Not happy we lost, but not disappointed in how we competed.

Liberty scores with double pass but miss 2 point conversion and Rockets still lead 21-19 w three minutes plus left.
