In his WLW interview tonight Coach Steele mentioned we are anticipating 7 to 8,000 fans Saturday. It is worth coming just to see what Millett Hall is like with that kind of crowd. This day also is a DH with the women also facing hated Ohio at 1:00. All kinds of promotions and activities similar to the two big DH’s last year. Hopefully also featuring an announcement of our highly anticipated new Arena.
Ohio is 11-9 ( 5-3). They suffered their first home loss of the season 86-83 to Toledo Tuesday. We are getting them at a time where their two best big men have been out with injuries. 6-8 JR Aidan Hadaway was averaging 10/6, 6-8 SR AJ Clayton averaged 15/6. Ohio has about 5 good guards and they will now play as many as 4 of them at a time. They also have a 6-9 240 lb transfer from DIII to give them some size. He had 6/8 vs Toledo Tuesday.
Instead of season averages I will just give you the numbers from Tuesday night for the guards because this is now an entirely different type team with their two bigs out. They are fast and athletic and can handle the ball and score:
6-2 JR Jackson Pavletzke 22 points 6 assists to 1 turnover
67-4 RS Soph AJ Brown 22 points 8rebounds
6-1 GS Sherriff Mitchell averages 10points
6-3 JR Elmore James 10 points
6-1 JR AJay Sheldon (Sister in WNBA) 6 points
After the EMU game, Coach Steele said that Ian Elmer was expected to practice on Thursday and be ready for the Kittens. This is our chance to put on a big show for a great crowd against our rival who embarassed us in Millett last March. This is the day to show that Miami basketball is back and only going to get better.
Will see the depth of Miami this Saturday. Pretty clear that the MAC is incredibly weak this year. Akron made obvious numerous deficiencies. I do think we’ll beat OU at home (thinking there will be a decent turnout due to marketing and not much that would otherwise draw attention away from the game).
Next year Miami will be very much deep. Can argue ad infinitum. And obviously everyone is an expert.
Plan to but wile’s maybe getting the bug so who knows?
MHT’ers should have pre-game or half time huddle and solve all the athletic department’s problems! Get Pres C and Director of Athletics in on it. Sure they’ll be glad to hear everything we have to say!
7,000-8,000? How many tickets they give away? Does Wally still draw that much of a crowd? I know the team’s good and the basketball alumni are back. But that’s a lot to expect
Steele’s comment, but we did have over 7,000 and over 6,000 the two times we did similar highly promoted free ticket DH’s, and we are better and it’s Ohio.
