With the season officially over and the portal opening tomorrow figured it’s time for an offseason thread.
The USHL playoffs are underway, Ryan Seelinger & Keaton Orrey (Des Moines) were eliminated last night.
Miami commits in the conference semifinals:
Youngstown: Cal Huston, Jack Hamilton, Matous Kucharcik
Muskegon: Branko Vukas, Chuck Blanchard
Dubuque: Trevor Theuer
Lincoln: Layne Loomer, Nate Pederson, Griffin Brown
Sioux City: Max Anderson
Nassen, Stupka, Langevin, and Quinn enter the portal. Charlie Michaud is also in there, I guess looking to make a comeback to college hockey at a different school.
Curious how many freshmen to expect, as it seems like a somewhat larger class. Wonder how many we go after in the portal as well.
Quinn and Langevin are the ones of this group you hate to see leave. Cant really blame Langevin, he only got one start and was outstanding. He’ll get a shot somewhere for sure.
With 6 graduates and 4 transfers gone we probably have around 9-10 openings. Currently 17 returners. Probably a mix of transfers and freshmen but more on the freshmen side.
We don’t have any goalie commits so I can see that being a transfer. Gibson Homer is in the portal who originally committed to Miami…maybe he can share the secrets from the two other NCHC teams he’s played for. Oh, also we have never had a player transfer from another NCHC team to Miami. Many the other way around though.
Don’t even get me started on how much I’m going to miss Quinn.
John Emmons is the last remaining Berge recruit on the team I believe
Quinn big loss in my mind - I do think there will be some Goaltending depth in the portal which will help (few interesting names starting to appear)

Noreen seems to like grad transfers in the portal, a kid like Evan Murr D, from Minnesota State might be a nice pick up or Carter Rapalje F from Ferris State. Lots of goalies in the portal from bad teams that saw a lot of pucks. Itll be interesting to see how that plays out.

Evan Murr was headed to the Gophers back in Feb. Schlossman has already confirmed it. He was officially in the portal less than 30 minutes. It has to be a record.
Rapelje is a decent player but doesn’t have the NCHC pedigree.
Rorke Applebee is arguably the top goalie in the portal at this time but he’ll be holding out for a full time starter role. This would be an outstanding pickup but I don’t think we’re on his radar.
While it’s still early and aside from Applebee there isn’t anyone yet that makes me go WOW! who isn’t already committed or NC tagged (edit: that we actually have a chance of landing).

Anyone on our target list this off season from the CHL? Thats where we got Matteo last season, although he’d played a season afterwards in USports.

In an interesting turn of events, Rihards Simanovics enters the portal. He got little playing time up at BUGS this past year and the BUGS guys are saying this isn’t a surprise.
