How about Kyle Decker?

I hear that Sravis Teele is available

Tim Rose would get my vote… He did beat LSU in Baton Rouge…

i share many feelings that have been shared re: Chuck. I am also not particularly excited about our alternatives as I understand them.

We should be sure we have good options or a good option before we can him. Not saying don’t can him.

Maybe we hire Ryan Day since OSU fans want him gone since they lost to USC with their backup qB

Brent Vigen would be one to look at. 69-13 record and just won an FCS national championship at Montana State. Played at NDSU and previously coached there and Wyoming. However I’m not sure if he would have any interest moving into a tougher job in an area he has no connection to.

First, I am far less in the “Fire Chuck!” mindset than most on the board. But, if the position became available I hope that Mr. Sayler’s first phone call is to Chris Creighton.

Like Chuck he is in his 13th year in the MAC. Unlike Chuck he has to deal with what is arguably the most difficult and least resourced program in FBS. If given a chance to coach a program that had natural advantages over it’s competitors I belive that he would be exceedingly successful.

Totally understand people not being super hot on Deland - reasonable criticisms - just wanted to throw a relevant name out there to get things going.

But I’m not sure it’s that important for a head coach these days to be that deep in the Xs and Os, not that I have any idea his proficiency in this area. More about being the face of the program, a leader of men, keeping the money coming in (or increasing it), recruiting, dealing with the media, managing other coaches handling more of the details.

You could make the argument that Chuck gets TOO deep into the nitty gritty (when he goes on benders about defensive schemes particularly) and should be spending more time focusing on clock/timeout management, hiring an assistant from anywhere but Grand Valley, not conceding power 4 games before they even start, and not blowing 2-3 touchdown leads with regularity. Oops, my intention was to avoid Chuck bashing but sometimes it just bubbles over!

Frankie Smith you say?

Frank Smith would be a very interesting candidate. A lot of great NFL experience, Miami alumnus, still lives in the area as I think his kids attend Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy. On paper seems like a guy who can coach football and potentially have the necessary connections to raise money.

It is his alma mater, but do you you really think the assistant head coach for a 6-1 NFL team would have any interest in a MAC (or even AAC) job?

It depends on his career goals. I would assume the pay would be similar. If Miami is serious about moving to the AAC or leaving the MAC, the next HC will need to be paid 7 figures. I’m sure most NFL coordinators make 7 figures, but I don’t think they’re paid like coordinators at top P4 schools. How bad does he want to be a HC? Does it matter if the job is college or NFL? Everyone is different.

Aria say Cahil from Yale would be a natural fite and Brennan Marion OC at Colorado would bring excitement and offense to town. I would guess he’s getting paid WAY more than what we could offer.

Best idea I have read on here is hire a successful FCS HC who could bring some of his top tier talent with him. I would be 100% behind that.

Sounds like what Toledo did

Jason Eck moved from FCS Idaho to New Mexico & turned that program around immediately. They are in the top 25 first time ever & the whole state is excited. They’ve had record crowds the past 2 years, also
