Spilled milk at this point, but I think we win that game with Larvadain, Amos, and Nicholson.
Especially tough to swallow when you consider OU has racked up over 400 yards of offense against Syracuse after losing their entire team.
Yes, we definitely looked like a 7-5 type team. We will have to see how competitive NW is in the Big Ten to see if they were simply better than we (here in Hawk talk) expected.
I have to admit I was worried about the offense going in, but certainly expected we could manage a TD or two. Very disappointing game…
Losing by 16 though.
Nescadad, for me not so much pessimism…more a feeling of sadness.
Game is over. Things to clean up. Time to get ready to kick Bearcat ass!
Fair although they’ve been in the game until the end.
I guess my point is more they look like a competent offense against a similar team after replacing their entire offense.
Two weeks to get ready!
I was looking forward to watching some college football tonight…to say I am now rather unenthused would be an understatement.
Syracuse was a 6-7 team last season - one that lost its bowl game to South Florida 45-0 and fired its coach. They were not even on the same class as Northwestern at the end of last season.
We were driving with a good chance to beat a much improved big 10 team whos won 6 of their last 7 games with 2 minutes left in the game. It was our QBs first game back in 10 months from a gruesome injury. Lost by one score when in recent years our first games have been blowouts.
I believe in our ability to beat UC and maybe by the time we see ND the kinks will be wrinkled out and we’ll have caught our offensive stride. I guess we have to root for Northwestern to win out and for us to go 12-1, maybe the committee will look at this one loss with grace😂
Even forgetting the CFP, if this is the way we play against the b10, we have a shot at the MACC
Let’s not fool ourselves. We lost to a mediocre P4 team without a dynamic player. Our defense was fine, but our offense was embarrassing.
They started playing better towards the end, hopefully that’s a sign of good things to come
Why would that matter at all?
UPDATE: They gave up a million yards passing and four touchdowns to Kyle McCord. LMAO.
Brett has to be better. That’s pretty much it. And we need a deep threat.
Really would be nice to see Chuck win in week 1 one year
Hmmm, that seems fair.
I guess we ignore the rest of what we saw from those not named Brett?
P.S. before you call me a “Homer” or whatever, see my post above where I graded Brett as C/C+ today.
I am taking the liberty of editing your post: “The entire offense has to be better. Including the coaching staff. That’s pretty much it.”
We haven’t opened the season with an upset win over a power conference school since 2002 (against UNC in the rain).
Since then, our season-opening wins have been:
Indiana State (2004)
Ball State (2007)
Presbyterian (2015)
Ball State (2020, with the screwed up Covid season)
That’s it. It would be nice to start 1-0 again one of these years.
Sackman: can you help me understand why Chuck kept running little Mozee into the line? I just don’t see him exhibiting the qualities needed, which are being decisive, and then hitting the hole quickly w power. I realize our OL wasn’t blocking that great , but it was painful to see him hesitate, and then go down (usually behind the line of scrimmage) when wrapped up by 2-3 guys.
My personal sports background is hoops and baseball, so I don’t profess to have a lot of “football savvy”, but it wasn’t hard to see that guys like Brunson should have gotten a few more carries. Why doesn’t Chuck and his coaches see what we were seeing?
Other than Jados and McDonald, everyone else could’ve played better, sure. But it begins and ends with your 46 year starting QB and he wasn’t very good today. And it was a little disconcerting to see our Special Teams so average.
Go out and ring the damn Bell in two weeks and all will be forgiven by The Sackman.
