As we end 2024, all 16 SEC teams have at least 10 wins. Seversl have as many as 13 wins. It appears the SEC has become the #1 Power Conference in hoops.
Maybe, but the Big 12 and SEC both have 7 teams in the top 25. So is SEC basketball stronger than SEC football this season?
Has the SEC ever had a better collection of coaches?
Rick Barnes, Bruce Pearl, Todd Golden, Mark Pope (good coach, not sure if he’s a great coach yet), Nate Oats, Porter Moser (Final 4 at Loyola), John Calipari, Buzz Williams, Mike White.
Also, they brought in former Big East commish Mike Tranghese to improve their basketball profile so the SEC has put a greater emphasis on hoops.
As someone who was born in Urbana Illinois and whoose grandfather played basketball and uncle played football for the Illini I find including Bruce Pearl on that list a travesty.
I encourage you to google it.
Pearl is about as shady as they come, or at least was.
At that level shady is relative; see Pitino, Calipari etc. Doesn’t seem to matter as long as you can coach.
Whatever else Bruce Pearl is, and I agree he’s a lot of other things, he’s a damn good coach.
Thought MAC refs were bad?
UMass Fordham had SEVENTY NINE fouls
122 free throws
9 players fouled out. Fordham were left with 5 with walk ons playing
Glad I didn’t have to watch that one
Excluding a fight breaking out, I’m really not sure how a game could actually have that many fouls. Refs have got to get out of the way.
I didn’t watch, but it did go to triple overtime, but 79 still seems excessive
Whatever happened to “No blood, no foul”?
Kids these days!
