NIU women at Miami Saturday at 1:00 on ESPN+

Get there early as it is Senior Day. Ceremonies before the game. We are honoring 4 girls: Clare Chambers, Cori Lard, Maya Chandler, and Katey Richason. There are also free tickets available. Code Celebrate

NIU is13-16 (6-11). They were eliminated from the MAC tourney with a 79-70 home loss to Toledo Wednesday night. They have lost lots of games to MAC lower teams but have done better against the top teams than we have. They have wins at Toledo and home vs Kent, BG, Central, and Western. They are very capable of beating us.

Northern has 4 seniors playing their final game on Saturday. Chelby Koker is a big, strong point guard who is a 6th year SR and has around 2,000 career points. She had 24 in their loss to Toledo. 5th year SR 6-3 Brooke Stonebreaker averages 10.8/6.2. McCrea and Nichols are two other solid and very experienced Seniors. Lisa Carlson is in her 10th season as head coach and they are right around .500 under her. NIU posters have said that this might be her final game, although her freshman daughter is a 3 point specialist who might make the all freshman team.

Miami is 18-10 (10-7). We will be going to Cleveland, seed could still be anywhere from #4 to #6. We need a Miami win and a BG win at EMU and a Kent loss at home vs Toledo to get the #4 seed. Most likely we will be playing Kent in Cleveland on Wednesday. We beat Northern by 20 in DeKalb when Enjulina scored 20 points in the first half and they went to a Box and 1 in the second half and held her to 5. All time this series is dead even at 50 wins each.

Miami is #1 in the MAC in points given up at 57.6pg and steals per game at 11.3. We are led by sophomores Amber Tretter and Enjulina Gonzalez who both might get MAC post season honors, plus FR Tamar Singer could be on the All Freshman team.

Unreal three point shooting by both teams, especially in the first two quarters. Pretty impressive that we scored 89. Nice way for the seniors to go out.

This was the highest scoring game of the season with 168 combined points. Both teams shot the lights out, but once we stopped playing 2 bigs and matched their lineup of one big and 4 guards we controlled the game. 3 girls had huge games. Maya Chandler had her career high with 26 points, Enjulina Gonzalez broke out of a shooting slump with 9 of 13 from the floor for 22 points and also had 6 steals, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. Amber Tretter went 4 for 6 on threes and had 19 points and 8 rebounds. Tamar Singer, for the 3rd game in a row had a good assist to Turnover ratio of 5 to 3. Cori Lard came off the bench and had 4 steals and 8 points.

We had a much better crowd, over 1200 and a really nice Senior Day and a great game to head to Cleveland with momentum. I hope many of you will join us in Cleveland on Wednesday.
