Why the F would we want their valueless programs that only add the biggest travel cost. Plus you would immediately lose UMass basketball. Utterly ridiculous by NIU

It’s official now NIU unanimously approved their switch to the mountain west for football. Other sports is TBD they claim they want to work with the MAC but I don’t think the MAC will want to work with them

No reason I can think of for the MAC to keep their sports of little value.

I’m writing a snail mail letter (figure they count more than emails) to Crawford and Sayler urging them to boot NIU for everything else.

It would be an awful precedent to allow NIU to keep their other sports in the conference. I highly doubt that it is being seriously considered by MAC officials.

I agree which is why you have to throw a stupid number out there and see if they bite. Maybe 6mm is too low.
Miami has 3 non-football men’s sports in common with NIU—— basketball, baseball & golf. Golf only sees them at the MAC championships.

UMASS is obviously in a geography where fans hardly know (or care) about the MAC, so they will have to start showing some signs of life in their football and hoops programs to bring back the fans.
They are investing in their football stadium w improvements and hopefully will eventually be a positive for the conference. Their academics are better than NIU, but we still have other institutions that aren’t all that exemplary in that regard…not sure how much that matters, at least in our conference.
As I understand this, in 2025 we will have 13 teams in the MAC as UMass is joining next season and NIU starts in the MW in 2026. 2026 we will be back to 12 teams. Wonder what is going to happen with the scheduling pods.
They played football in the MAC for 3 years and UM played 4 Games vs MAC teams this season. Also, in their previous 3 year MAC stint, men’s and women’s Basketball played a few games vs MAC teams each year…So there was some MAC exposure in those years.
We better not let NIU back in again….
