Now maybe the MAC can focus on who can be #14 for the league.

Just get rid of UMass

It was a stupid idea to begin with (even more for Toledo).

Why? Because of location? I love they bring outstanding basketball and field hockey teams to our league.

If UConn could join in all sports, maybe the MAC would be a two bid league in hoops! Never gonna happen, but I would love that add.

UMASS is the flagship institution of a state with a population of 7 million and brings the Boston media market. They immediately improve our conference basketball prospects and will, over time, have a very credible football program. I believe this is a tremendous value add for the MAC.

Whoa! Let’s not say things that we can’t take back.

You’re overstating UMass’ footprint in the Boston media market.

Who cares…?

I’m glad UMass is coming for basketball. Hoping they can spur some league-wide investment in hoops like Marshall seemed to do for football back in the 90s

That’s like saying Maryland is a tremendous value added to thr B10

UMass is two and a half hours or more from Beantown. Miami is an hour from Cincinnati and Dayton and can’t get a sniff. There’s a lot of universities and colleges Boston media has to go thru to get to UMass.

Everyone is pointing at basketball. UMass had basketball credibility because they played in the multi-bid Atlantic 10. They now play in the one bid MAC.

It was dumb letting UMass into the MAC years ago in football and now it’s dumber bringing them in for everything

Had. They now have credibility because their NIL pool is the largest in the MAC for both football and basketball - and last I heard second place isn’t all that close.

It was the right choice to bring them in, and it’s naive to think it hasn’t already had an impact on how other MAC schools are funding their teams.

We agree to disagree. I’ll take a state logo any day over one with a bunch of cardinal directions attached to it. UMass is a great addition.

Fwiw, I’ve been to Boston several times, and I never hear anyone talk about UMass. The only college sport they care much about is hockey. Otherwise, it’s all Red Sox, Pats, Celtics, and Bruins.

That said, I am happy to have them in the MAC.

I’m happy to have them added. I think it will upgrade the basketball talent overall and maybe get us on the road to more than 1 bid. Also, if NIU leaves, that means one less terrible basketball school in our conference. In addition, I also can now go see an extra Miami football game when they are playing at UMASS since I live only few hours away.

So the determination of value is which program has the most NIL money?

I’m seeing their collective at ~$740k. If that estimate is accurate, that would be good for third. Almost $200k lower than Toledo.

Average G5 reported at $1.7M

And let the kids chase the NIL money and ride pine. They can come here and actually play.

Larvadain is the 5th receiver in Columbia. 4x less yards and catches.

Amos doesn’t even have 100 yards on the seasons.

They would have been the offensive features this year….first team all conference and positioned well for late round picks or priority UDFA.

I’m not bitter. It’s just fool’s gold all the way around

Apparently a low 6-figure NIL offer from a P4 is generally the going rate for a depth piece; while I’m sure most expect to be in the running for a starting spot.
