Nice! This a residual effect from last year’s success?
Almost certainly, we’re in 5 of the 8 announced games through January when no one else has above 3. There are multiple flex options after that so they’ll wait on early season performance to confirm those.
And that’s not even counting the MAC wild card games that will be flexed from Saturdays to Fridays in February/March.
As someone who loves going to Saturday afternoon basketball games, I hate them being switched to Friday nights
I agree that it stinks to move prime games to Fridays but our students seem to prefer it
I know if prefer it if it means more national exposure. There are probably 100 D1 games each Saturday afternoon, most on ESPN+. Getting a 7:00 or even 9:00 CBS Sports game with very few other games going on is kinda cool. Remember “Millett Hall is the loudest place in America right now!”?
Students prefer it and it provides national exposure. And it’s not like MACtion weekday football with most people still having to go to work or school the next day. It’s still the weekend.
We already only had 4 Saturday home games in conference play on the schedule. The Akron game getting flexed to Friday means we’re down to 3.
Assuming the Ohio game in late February also gets flexed, we’d be down to 2 and there’d be 0 triple header dates on the calendar. In that scenario, the two Saturday home games would be Ball St right before Christmas and EMU the day after New Year’s, which would both be tough for people with holiday plans.
It’s the price we pay for being great.
It’s Reghi’s world and we’re all just living in it.
If I recall, our winter break was stupid long at Miami, well into January. I wonder if any of those home dates will fall over that time when the students will be gone.
First day of classes is 1/25. I’d expect some upperclassmen to be back in Oxford on the Friday, but anyone is dorms isn’t allowed back in until Sunday (I believe) without paying extra.
yes that’s a major bummer for the Akron game at Miami…students still gone and now a Friday game makes it even more difficult for on campus students to be back an extra day early. If it was moved to Saturday 7 or 8PM that would have been the best case scenario.
Maybe it’s because I don’t really follow hockey and women’s hoops, but is this actually a popular thing? Do Miami fans often attend all three in a day?
I haven’t recently because of scheduling issues and hockey being so terrible, but I would do it every time it lined up when I was attending. Now that all three teams are good again, it was something I was specifically looking for when the schedules came out. Looks like it’s not going to happen this season.
