"My Authentic Passion For Baseball And Teaching Players...When I Get To The Field, I feel I have A Job To Do..."

"I broadcasted for the Vero Beach Dodgers in the late 1990s when Shoe was hitting coach or manager. 1997 we had Adrian Beltre all season who won Florida State League MVP and is now in Cooperstown.

So I worked with Shoe for 3 years and he was fantastic. An awesome person and one of my favorites. Would tell me stories about getting knocked out and flattened in the NCAA upset win over Marquette! So many other stories. One time got tossed arguing with an umpire. Snuck up to my booth and pulled a hat down low and hid in the corner of the booth so he could watch the rest of the game without being caught! (Slammed the table and shook my microphone when our guy popped out on a bad pitch with the bases loaded). Just a great person who was so respectful and friendly and awesome to everyone.

Amazing he is still doing this and with the same organization. That shows how much respect he carries. Because Dodgers management has changed many times over the decades. Minor league coaches and managers and instructors are let go all the time to make room for new blood. But everyone gets along with Shoe and respects his ability to work with young players. So even new management who steps in has remained interested in keeping him around as he continues to help the young players attempting to one day make it to the major leagues."
