I was curious about something. So just checked. No MBB player averages 30 minutes a game. 6 average 20 or more a game with 3 more averaging 12 or more minutes a game. Contrast that with the women’s team. 3 players average 30 or more a game: Singer, Scalia, Tretter. 2 more are averaging 28 minutes a game: Devries and Jurjo. Only 2 others currently available to play are averaging over 10 minutes a game. So, what this tells me is Coach Box is asking a lot of his starting 5 in terms of minutes played per game. Also tells me he doesn’t trust his bench as much as Coach Steele trusts his.

Put another way, the starting 5 for WBB average 152.1 minutes a game out of a possible 200. The starting 5 for MBB average 127.9 minutes a game out of a possible 200.
It also increases injury risk and being exhausted for MAC games
Minutes per game at this point in the season is going to be a very disingenuous statistic for men’s basketball. We have had a ton of blowouts. Coach Steele has been able to give minutes in a way that he won’t be able or want to in MAC play.

I would say that is true to some extent but Coach Steele continues to say he is comfortable going 9 deep. I would guess it is more like 8-Robbins and Walz may see their time reduced a bit. But even so, the minutes per game the women’s starting 5 are putting in are significant.
