Congrats Peter. Beyond silly now for the Zags to be considered a mid major

Agreed. Gonzaga is not a mid-major.

Congrats to Peter. Fantastic year for him and the team. Glad to see he is getting some much well deserved recognition.

Suder was not just a terrific player, but the ultimate team player. He did so many things well that he was a key contributor even when he only scored 8 points. We were very lucky to have him, and he leaves a big hole.

In my forty-plus years of Miami basketball fandom, there have been better players than Peter Suder, but I could make the argument that we’ve never had a player who was more important to the program. From the first day he stepped onto campus he has exhibited a relentless winning mentality with the effort and selflessness to match. He’s one of those rare players who leads with swagger and makes everyone else on the floor more confident along with him. He arrived when Coach Steele was still trying to establish a winning culture and has been the embodiment of that. I think everyone who played alongside him the last couple of years will carry that forward.

100 %++ AGREE!

I recall watching Suder’s Bellarmine highlights when he was announced as an incoming transfer, and thinking “he’s a nice player and will contribute”. What I learned over the past 2 years is that you don’t understand his impact by watching highlights of most games, but you do by watching entire seasons of full games.

The Tavari Johnson argument for MAC PotY demonstrated this more than anything. Tavari is a great player and would have been a deserving winner as well, but the reaction from many MAC fans on socials demonstrated they probably didn’t watch Miami much beyond box score watching or when we played them. There’s a reason the coaches voted for Suder. He does so much that doesn’t appear in a box score (and still does stuff that does appear there).

There were a few very vocal guys on X adamant Pete was only the 3rd or 4th best player on our team, let alone PotY or all-MAC first team type player. Totally missed what he brings to the floor. Just ridiculous stuff.

When he came out after last season and declared right away that he was returning, it really sent a message to the rest of the guys, and set the table for this historic run.

The Akron game was a perfect example of what Suder did beyond scoring. He only had 9 points, didn’t shoot well (3 for 10), and he turned it over 6 times (most ever for him at Miami).

But this was right after Evan went down and before Luke fully asserted himself as a playmaker. This was before we knew how good Justin Kirby was and Trey Perry was nearly unplayable at the time. So essentially, the entire offense ran through Suder that day and he delivered in a big way. He had 9 of the team’s 12 assists and created several other plays where he didn’t get an assist. And during crunch time, he hit his patented fade away to put us up 3 with 2 minutes left.

I don’t recall how he played on defense that day, but he was a relentless bulldog defensively all season. Having said all that, multiple people on this board were shitting on Suder for his poor play in the Akron game thread and someone even called for him to be benched. I couldn’t believe it and let’s just say I didn’t read too many game threads after that.
