I was wondering what seed we might be and went online and saw Ball State still ranked much higher than us. Possibly Massey? I find that just odd given we beat them and won both reg and tourney. If that makes us a 13 seed, wow watch out.
Edit: ncaa has them at 68 and us at 75.
Doesn’t make sense. We beat them twice, abused them on their home court and won the league tournament. How can they be ranked higher?
Worried about Steele leaving? I think there’s a better chance Box leaves. He was already highly regarded before he came here, now he’s performed a total rebuild in three years. He’s a hot commodity.
I’m wondering if the rankings are somehow dated. They say they are up to the 13th but still. Oh well. If we go in as a 13 it might actually be better. We might be a tough out.
Ohio State, Michigan, Louisville, and West Virginia all are in the top sixteen to host, and each is a reasonable drive from Oxford for Miami fans. It seems like it would be better if Miami got selected for one of those locations.
Grumpy, so true, its the facade of the 2020’s DI athletics - build a strong house that will with stand many a storm, is great for the family and admired by many VS. the fanciest doublewide in the community with tons of amenities. Coaches build these mid major programs with tons of sweat & tears, still a certain # of his/her’s players move on to greater $$$&bling…enter evidence embodied in a certain former Miami men’s baller this year. Mid-majors are at a crossroads - successful - cue the mid-major coaches go down same path to more $$$&bling only to find oneself coaching athletes paid more than you. Limited success - more sweat & tears, be thankful, might grow stagnant. (I love Gino’s take on loyalty taught today with the portal and coaches moving on.) So re: Box, what talent/scoring is he actually losing next year? Do the underclassmen reserves have the talent or is it once again the beyond comprehension, deep portal that will be his well to dip into – to become even stronger? He definitely stated in presser yesterday his one goal. Also, there was sure some strong Ohio talent at the Final Four this weekend. Surely after this wkend some will be looking at Miami & Coach Box. What talent has been signed? Meanwhile, I think there will always be 1 school that when it opens up, he would want. So far, not opened.
@MotherMiami Good summation of the plight of mid major programs. Our biggest loss is Amber Scalia. We also lose Clara Gozalez and Ashton Elley, neither of whom are big scorers but both of whom played important roles and Gonzalez is a great defender.
I can’t imagine any of our top players entering the portal. Returning Tretter, Singer, Jurjo and DeVries gives us an exceptional core. We get transfer Brooke Blumenfeld back from injury, which will give us an experienced backup for Ilsa or we can go big and play her with Ilsa and Amber.
Mio Sakano is a solid but not flashy backup PG. Macie Taylor is a player I thought would play more but obviously Coach Box didn’t see it the same way. Maybe because of her defense, but she has a pretty good shot. Hopefully, VanTimmeran gets stronger over the offseason and improves her footwork.
We have signed Brooke Zartman, an all state player from Warsaw, IN. She is a 5’7” guard. She will be a great addition. I have heard that we have another Israeli player coming but haven’t seen that confirmed. I would expect more portal players.
We should be very good again, or Box could leave and take players and staff with him.
Would he wait to see if Terri leaves and then go back to IU?
Why would she leave? If Box leaves I would like to see Ben Weirzba get the job and bring his brother from Indiana.
I first met Coach Box at an 8:00 a.m. preseason practice before his first season. Our best players had gone into the portal and he had a late start putting a roster together. You could see that first season was going to be rough. Even so, he told me after practice that he was there to win championships. At the time I thought that was something anyone in his position would say. Now I know he not only meant it but had a plan to do it.
She’s getting up there and I feel like the almost total rebuild she had to do this year took a lot out of her.
Our recruiting is fine. Very fine! ![]()
I worry about Ilse leaving. Unlimited ceiling with 2 yrs left.
In Cleveland I was told by a source very close to the program that Ilse is very happy at Miami and especially close to the staff.
Correct. That applies almost universally for the entire team. The wild card being Glenn Box.
