Miami is 7-4 (0-1), Western is 4-7 (1-0). They have wins over Cleary, Arkansas State, Prairie View A & M, and Eastern Michigan 65-51. The Broncos were the only team we swept 2-0 last year. Miami leads the all time series 40-34. They are not a strong team but will be fired up after winning their first MAC game.
They play a lot of people. Last year we dominated the paint against them, but they did force us into a bunch of turnovers. The only 2 consistent starters are Guard Marina Asensio averaging 13.5 ppg and just under 5 assists pg and Forward Hannah Spitzley at 10.9ppg and 5.2rpg.
For Miami Enjulina Gonzalez is averaging 16.2ppg, 4th in the MAC. Amber Tretter has strong all around stats. At 11.2ppg she is 22nd in the MAC, 6th in rebounding, 2nd in blocks,13th in steals, and 4th in FG%. Tamar Singer is 8th in the MAC in both assists and steals. Coach Box said she had an ankle injury vs Ball State but should be ready to go Saturday.
And as a result their best player Ascenzio has 13 at the half. Singer is like rabbit quick and harasses the other point guard and gets loose balls and can drive anytime she wants to. We are missing all those things today. Tretter and Richardson with 2 fouls each at the half, we need Amber on the court to win this one . Ilse has 9 points at the half, probably her best game so far.
Enjulina and Amber kind of willed us to victory. Don’t be fooled by the 6 point win. We trailed for about 90% of the game and until the last 22 seconds 2 points might have been our biggest lead. Enjulina got fouled with under a minute to go in a tie game. She made both, then she got the ball after a miss twice and went two for two twice, so 6 for 6 in the last minute, reminiscent of Singer doing the same thing in the last minute vs Austin Peay in November.
