6:00 Central, 7:00 Eastern on ESPN+. NIU is 10-5 ( 2-2). They have wins this year over Toledo and perennial NCAA qualifier DePaul. We have lost our last 3 games at NIU but did beat them in Oxford last year. They are led by a couple of 4 year starters In Chelby Koker ( similar style and ability to Ivy Wolf) and A’Jah Davis, 6-0 wide body post player). Davis is averaging 14.9 ppg. Last year she led the MAC in rebounding, this year she is second with 11.3 rpg. She leads the MAC in FG% at 55%, Koker has averaged 20 ppg in the past, but this year leads the team at 15.9ppg. NIU is a deep team who gets contributions from many girls.
8-5 Miami at the 5 and under TO. Both teams are getting it inside, but a lot of misses from 3 feet.
Miami up 17-13 at the end of one as Katie Richardson and Ivy Wolf have 6 points each. Scott has zero and Cluse hit our only 3 for her only points.
26-21 Miami halfway through the second period. Wolf got her second foul early in the second quarter and has set out since. Chelby Koker also has 2 and she is sitting out. Maddie Cluse now leads our scoring with 7, Scott is having a poor game so far.
Played well the entire half. I don’t want to get excited because I’ve become conditioned to expect the inevitable scoring drought and the avalanche of turnovers.
Miami is up 35-27 at the half. NIU has missed a ton of shots in close to the basket
Freeman and Wolf have 2 fouls each. Wolf has 9 points and 3 assists, Cluse has 7 points and 7 rebounds. Scott with 6, Freeman 4, Richason 4, Chambers 3, and Neal 2. For NIU Janae Poisson has 9, Koker 7 and Davis 6 points and only 2 rebounds. Both teams played a lot of players in the first half, I would guess that will change in the second half.
44-41 Miami halfway through the 3rd period. Poisson and Koker have gotten hot and now have 13 and 14. Koker did pick up her third foul. Wolf with 13 and Cluse with 12. Ivy missed a free throw, which I think snaps another long streak. She was at 94%.
NIU went down 10 early in the third but got it going and took a 2 point lead with under 2 minutes to go. We had a TO and then Cluse hit a 3 and Richason blew a layup but got the rebound and hit both free throws so we are up 53 to 52 starting the 4th quarter. Cluse has 15 and 10, Wolf has 13, Scott 9. Poisson has 19 and Koker 13 for NIU.
We continued the 5-0 run to enter the 4th quarter and ran it to a 13-0 run. 6:33 to go, TO Miami, up 7.
Freeman 3 fouls, Wolf and Cluse 3.
We are up 9 with 3:35 to go. Wolf hit a couple of clutch shots and has 23.
1:25 to go and we are now up 5. There is a leak in the roof and water is pooling around the foul line on the NIU end. We fell leading to them getting a bucket. Wolf has forced tow tough shots on the last two possessions and she missed and nobody went for the rebounds. Asia Davis has started rebounding finally.
Somebody is up on the catwalk with a bucket now, lol.
We are at over 5 minutes now and they are out on the floor with mops and towels.
Now they have the ball with 28 seconds left as we makestupid plays after stupid play.
3 point lead with 11 seconds left. our ball. We called a TO to advance the ball.
Hendrix gets her 30th win at Miami.
Yea us.
74-69 Miami, Peyton Scott ripped a rebound out of the hands of Davis and got a foul call, then went 4 for 4 on free throws to close out the game. Our first road win of the season, and for the second Wednesday night in a row, we have pulled off a big win over a pretty good team. We play Ohio who was the only winless team in MAC play coming into tonight at home on Saturday. That gives us the opportunity to get to 3-3 in MAC play and start thinking about getting to the MAC tournament.
We outrebounded them 43 to 34.Ivy Wolf had 23 points, Peyton Scott, who was 3 for 14 on the night, hit 12 out of 14 free throws, most in the 4th quarter, and ended up with 18 points. Maddie Cluse had another double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and turned her ankle in the 4th quarter but came back in after a few minutes and a tight tape job. Katie Richardson had 6 points and is kind of moving ahead of the other 2 big girls in minutes. For NIU Koker and Poisson had 20 each, Davis ended up with her usual double double with 13 points and 10 boards.
