Miami women at Central Michigan Wednesday at 6:30 on ESPN+

CMU is 4-9 (0-2). They are in a rebuilding process, but are still averaging over 1,000 fans as a carry over from the great run they had for 6 or 7 years under Sue Guevara, which included 3 NCAA tournament wins and several MAC championships. They have played a tough schedule so far. The only two common opponents were Dayton ( they lost by 4 at UD) and Ball State ( they lost by 11 in Muncie).

They play 10 girls between 26 and 14 minutes per game. They are athletic and have Two 6-2, one 6-3, and one 6-5 girl. Their biggest weaknesses appear to be turnovers (21 per game) and shooting percentages. 5-8 Freshman Madi Morson averages 13.2 ppg.

They started MAC play on the road against the top two teams in the MAC, losing by26 at undefeated Buffalo and by 11 at Ball State. Their strength seems to be rebounding as they have a plus 7 advantage. I would say they are more talented than Western but also more inexperienced.

If Tamar Singer returns to action, she could help disrupt their offense with her great defensive pressure. I look for another hard fought game similar to Saturday. I wonder if we just stayed in Michigan for 4 days since school is not in session or if we are making 2 long round trip bus trips.

Central beat us twice last year. The last time we won there was in Coach Duffy’s final season on a sideline out of bounds play. Savannah Kleusner converted an old fashioned 3 point play at the buzzer.

Not much scoring in this game. At the media TO in the first quarter it was 11 to 1 Miami. At the end of one it was 16 to 6 Miami. Halfway through the second quarter we were up 22 to 11. At the half it is 25 to 16 Miami.

Halftime stats, Miami is shooting 34%, 30%, and 100%. Central is19%, 25%, and 44%. Rebounds are even, We have 11 to’s, Central. 14. Enjulina has 8 points, all in the first Quarter. Amber has 4 points and 7 rebounds. Cori Lard has 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block. Lisa Tesson leads the Chips with 5 points. We lost by a point in the second quarter.

Video quality of this broadcast is horrible! Like watching a video of a 2002 game.

Fixed at the 3rd quarter break.

We are playing mad sloppy down the stretch. We’ve let them back in the game twice!

Three missed shots with 7.9 seconds.

CMU wins 47-46.

33% shooting. 21 turnovers to 7 assists. Maybe our worse game this year.

Tretter twice scored in the last minute to give us a one point lead. Both times Morson went one on one and scored to give Central the one point lead. We got up 3 shots in the last 7 seconds and missed them all. Bad loss for us.

We play a much better Bowling Green team in the first game of a home doubleheader. Girls at 1, guys at 3:30.

We need Singer back. Had much trouble running the offense the whole second half. Couldn’t get any ball movement or paint penetration. The lane was so vacant most of the time you could see tumbleweeds blowing through it.

Tamar didn’t make the trip last night which is unusual. Even Ziul was on the bench, walking boot and all. I’m beginning to wonder if there’s more to the story.
