Miami v Wright State

Tonight Miami travels to Wright State. 41st meeting between the 2 schools with Miami holding a 21-19 advantage. Should be a good test for Miami as MAC play approaches. Miami’s lineup remains the same. Miami has 4 players averaging in double figures PPG. Game notes below. Wright State is currently 5-6 (1-1 Horizon), as the Raiders most recently dropped to Marshall 74-76 this past Saturday. Wright State went 15-18 (8-12 Horizon) last year. Head coach Clint Sargent is in his second season with the Raiders. Heading into the 2025-26 season, Wright State was selected to finish seventh overall in the 2025-26 Horizon League Preseason Men’s Basketball Poll. Redshirt sophomore guard Solomon Callaghan was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team in 2024-25. Freshman guard Michael Cooper (15.3/game) and graduate student forward Michael Imariagbe (10.5/ game) lead the Raiders with double figures in scoring. Cooper also leads the team in assists (3.0/game). Sophomore wing Andrea Holden has blocked the most shots (1.64/game), and sophomore guard TJ Burch has recorded the most steals (3.0/game). Imariagbe (5.9/game) and Holden (5.4/ game) have brought down the most rebounds. Miami game notes:

Kind of has that “Big Game” sorta feeling tonight. We will be tested. Need to show we can close out a game in the 2nd half this time.

Yes, Wright isn’t the team we want to let back in a game. They score 79ppg and our the 49th team nationally in scoring defense as 66ppg.

We’re 1.5 point underdogs. I’m offended.

I know it’s hard to be undefeated, even with the schedule we’ve played. But in my mind, the season starts tonight. A tough game followed by conference play in which anything can happen. Wright St. is good at shooting the 3 and better at defending it. They’re pretty good at taking care of the ball and better at taking the ball away. They’ve played a much tougher schedule. We’re playing the toughest team we’ve played in the toughest environment we’ve seen in front of the most people we’ve played in front of. It can all be shocking to the system. 40 solid minutes are required tonight and no fewer.

Gotta stop Loudon Love who I assume is still there as a tenured professor.

Wright State has several highlight videos from this year on their official athletic website for those interested in watching. I have watched a few.

I’ve prepared myself for a Loss tonight. Our super soft schedule likely has not prepared us for a tough battle. Being on the road, I think we will not be mentally ready for them. Plus, correct me If I am wrong, but perception wise anyway, I think our 3-point shooting has been disappointing compared to last year.

Man, we’re acting like Wright State is a powerhouse. @The_Sackman what say you?

Not a powerhouse by any means. If you watch the videos I referenced immediately above, they are very beatable. Not much size, not that we are behemoths, but we should be able to get points in the paint. We need to rebound better than last game though. I don’t see anything on their highlight videos we can’t handle.

Ipsaro is going to have their guards spinning like a dreidel!!

Last time I checked, we don’t lose basketball games.

It’s pretty much exactly the same. We were 39.7% last year (3rd nationally) and are 39.6% this year (17th nationally).

Of note, Atlanson is shooting 45.5% on 4.4 attempts per game. Last year, Kraft shot 43.1% on 6.6 attempts per game.

Good info on shooting behind the arc. Thanks! Just seemed off on some games.

=>Win or lose, this is a very good game for miami to play. I expect we get WSU’s best shot.

Miami will get everyone’s best shot in road for the foreseeable future.

We will get a clue if Miami is a legit potential 15-3/14-4 MAC team or closer to a 11-7/10-8 MAC team. WSU would likely be upper middle of the pack in the MAC. Games like this are the difference in those those win-loss ranges.

Still can’t believe Ron Harper has the single-season block record at 71… Kevin Beard is the next closest at 48… Crazy!!

FYI the TICKETTUESDAY discount today is for $2 WBB on Saturday and $5 MBB on Monday (1pm vs Milligan’s Island).

6 straight losses to Wright State and will need consistent good play to win tonight, better than what they’ve shown thus far. I’ve seen several 10 minute stretches where Miami plays like a 15-3 MAC team but a whole lotta 10-8 there too. Personally I’d be happy with 13-5 in the MAC as the conference is tougher than last season.
