WMU comes to Oxford tonight. There record is not good but they do have a new “x” factor of sorts in Justice Williams who just played his first game for WMU and scored 20 in the WMU loss, off the bench. 6’4" guard, transfer from Robert Morris. Western Michigan is currently 6-8 (0-2 MAC), as the Broncos dropped to Toledo 84-79 last Tuesday night. Western Michigan went 12-20 (9-9 MAC) last year. 10th overall in the 2025-26 MAC Preseason Men’s Basketball Poll. Junior guard Jalen Griffith (15.5/game) and senior guard Jayden Brewer (13.0/ game) lead the Broncos offense in points. And here are WMU’s game notes. This is a game we should win by the spread or greater, but we have to guard against a let down of sorts after the win over Akron. So no complacency.

I’d be worried about a let down from getting by Akron
We’ve had trouble with Western the last couple of years. Last season was a split, and we were swept by them in 23-24. So I think Steele will have the boys ready for this one.
That is why I said we may not cover the spread but will win. I doubt Steele is going to let up on them.
My guess is the snub in the AP Top 25 poll may also come up in discussions Steele has with his team.

I wasn’t familiar with the WMU roster and I was really surprised by the game notes helpfully provided by Bluesman. They have only one player from Chicagoland. Heck, we have two.
I know that geography plays a far lesser role in recruiting in the NIL era but Chicago really out to be a focus for WMU.
