Miami travels to NIU today for a noon tipoff. Miami women now ranked #12 in the latest mid major rankings. Ilse Devries just named MAC player of the week. Team just destroyed a very good, also top 15 ranked Ball State team. Miami continues to have 4 players averaging double digit scoring and Tamar Singer is #4 in the entire country in assists and assists per game.
The Huskies are 4-15 overall, 2-6 in MAC play and have lost four of their last five contests. Nadechka Laccen leads the way in scoring (12.1 ppg.), and is joined by Nevaeh Wingate (11.3 ppg.) and Emille Sorenson (10.5 ppg.) in double figures.
36-22 Miami at the half. Feed a little slow today. Singer and Tretter with 8 each. Jurjo, Tretter and Scalia with 2 fouls each. Miami turning the ball over too much, 8 turnovers. Been a very choppy physical game with a lot of fouls called. Hard for either team to get a rhythm but Miami starting to roll.
Miami who is not the greatest rebounding team up 15-8 on the boards. NIU 2 assists and 9 turnovers. Miami with 7 assists (3 by Singer) and 8 turnovers (3 by Tretter). Johnson for NIU with 3 fouls, Sorenson NIU with 2 fouls.
Although NIU kept it close for much of the half I never felt uncomfortable. They are not very good offensively and it just seemed like we would eventually have one of our runs, and we did, closing the half 11-2.
40-23 Miami at NIU TO. Took Miami almost 2 and a half minutes to score in the 3rd quarter. Then back to back Singer assists to Jurjo and Tretter. We are up 17 and Devries, current MAC POW really hasn’t even gotten warm.
Glenn took Tamar out for a little rest and NIU went back to back plays inside for 2 fouls on Miami. One of the overlooked parts of Singer’s game is her ball pressure prevents easy passes into the post. Singer back on the floor.
