MIAMI V MAINE

Miami game notes below. Miami has 5 players averaging double figures in points per game. Maine is 0-10. Former Miami player Ryan Mabrey is at Maine. Jude Killy, also formerly at Miami, is the Maine AD. Former Miami player and assistant coach Jason Grunkemeyer is associate AD at Maine. Maine just lost by 22 to OU on Wednesday. OU only had 1 win I believe heading into this game.

I am not going to go into a lengthy discussion of our schedule, which most would say has been pretty weak. I realize Miami in planning the schedule didn’t know if Miami football would be in the MACC game but certainly they knew the date and time of the game. Seems to me we could have done something to avoid overlapping a Miami home BB game with the MACC just in case we got there. But maybe not. I don’t know. But it is irksome.

After this game, Miami has 4 straight road games before returning to Millett on 12/22 to face the mighty Milligan Buffaloes. Miami winter break starts 12/12/25 and students don’t return for classes on campus until 1/26/26. So students won’t be on campus for Miami home games against Akron, WMU, CMU, Buffalo. Leaving only 4 home games while students are on campus.

Cooper Flagg’s twin brother Ace plays for Maine.

And Cooper Flagg’s mother played for Maine’s WBB the only time they went to the NCAA tournament, or something like that.

Surprised they are 0-10. I saw them play Rutgers and they weren’t that bad.

You believe correctly. Their football coach is currently in prison for stealing nuclear codes and hiding them in his hair. Jeff Boals sucks.

Can’t wait to watch Mabrey miss all of this threes like the good old days.

I can’t wait to see Ipsaro blow by him!!

KenPom has our schedule strength as 365/365 FYI. Tragic.

Certainly not great. Refraining from saying anything else.

whispering to myself over and over ‘just stay healthy and get to conference play undefeated’

I hope you stay healthy and make it to conference play as well!!

Embarrassing

I’m guessing Maine is flying back Saturday night so probably couldn’t push the time of the game on Saturday back on short notice. Scheduling the conflict in the first place isn’t too unreasonable, but it’s sad that the attendance will likely be bad.

J Term is an absolute blight on Winter sports programs.

ACC 221 probably one of the most important classes farmer has to offer

Great professor. Their family is awesome

Supposedly Miami will be showing the MAC championship on the concourse tvs and on the big screen pregame halftime and post game

this is an issue even worse than the schedule IMO. In essence a 2 month break from campus which is half the basketball season. Its absurd. What should be the most attended game (Akron) will likely have less than 800 actual human bodies in Millet. As for the MAC football title game–that’s not an issue either. Students aren’t making that trip and attending. They barely go to home games let alone a trip to Detroit in the middle of December two days before finals start. Miami is just not a school that has any student school/team spirit. Just 30 years ago Miami averaged between 3500-6000 fans in the 1990-1999 seasons per basketball game (per NCAA site) and last year the average was 1700 which included those three games in February where we drew over 4500 each. Games during winter “J Term” literally have less than 500 people in the building.
