MIAMI V HOLY CROSS

Well if anyone has the stomach to read these damn things, here are the Miami game notes against mighty 0-2 Holy Cross.

Holy Cross has been outscored 70-20 in their 2 losses this year.

I’m flying in for this. Shoot me in the face.

Clearly this is the ESPN game of the week! They should pre-empt Ohio State v. Texas for this!!

We are 31.5 point favorites

Anyone else getting a “blacked out” game notes when you click on the Game Notes link? If so, is this Chuck Martin being coy and not showing Holy Cross his hand?

Nevermind, I downloaded the pdf and was able to open it. The link above and on miamiredhawks.com still results in a “blacked out” game notes for me.

Link works for me.

This might have been a good game…3 or 4 years ago. We beat Buffalo in 2022 and nearly beat both Army and BC in 2023 but since Coach Ray-Bans (Chesney) went South before going to Hollywood, we’ve struggled somewhat. Our QB is a Pitt transfer, so maybe there’s some hope

The positive thing I can say for Holy Cross is that they’re a Jesuit school.

Unfortunately for them, but fortunately for us, regarding sports, Jesuit colleges only excel in basketball, not football.

This is a huge mismatch. Or, it better be!

But, I do remember my CYO football team in grade school was named Holy Cross. Of course, I had no clue then where or who they were!!

Some quick fun facts:

*Bob Cousy, Tom Heinsohn, Dr Fauci, Clarence Thomas and Bill Simmons are some notable alumni.

* Gordie Lockbaum was 5th and 3rd in the Heisman voting in 1986 and 1987 respectively.

* We are one of a handful of schools that have won the NCAA (1947) and NIT(1954) in hoop and the College World Series (1952)

*Allegedly the Cleveland Indians took their mascot’s name from HC alum and Native American Louis Sockalexis.

*We declined an invitation to the Big East in 1979. Our President at the time (Fr Brooks SJ) famously quoted as: “We are not in the entertainment business.”

*This will be the first game in Ohio for HC since a 36-14 W ovah the Dayton Flyers in 1962.

All good stuff regarding Holy Cross.

My son, a graduate of Cleveland St Ignatius, toured Holy Cross.

Wonderful school.

Ultimately, he chose to attend the college of his Miami Merger parents.

One of my off-campus housemates my Senior year was a St Ignatius alumnus, from Rocky River.

And Miami almost match those same total points scored numbers in 1 loss

True but at least ours was against a P4 conference.

When my kid was a junior at Berkshire, Holy Cross was one of two or three D1 hockey schools showing interest. After he tore an ACL in the first game of his senior year the word was that he would need to play a year of Juniors to stay on their radar. He went to Hamilton. We used to drive back and forth past the stadium on the way to Berkshire.

Other local legend?
