Usually I would start this with game notes. But this is a big development. I have mentioned a few times already CMU’s offense is largely their QB Angel Flores. Well Flores is in concussion protocol. Most definitely a run first QB. 618 yards rushing, 475 passing. The likely backup is Jadyn Glasser, a 6’3 245 pound freshman. He is 24/43 for 242, 1 TD, 3 INT. 6 carries 16 yards. I would expect to see a little more passing from CMU if Glasser is the QB. And a heavy dose of Claveaux and Blue their top 2 RBs, who combined average over 5 yards a carry.
And here are Miami’s game notes. No real changes to depth chart. Brian Beidatsch at LG instead of Greg Smith listed as backup. Last game Smith was listed as questionable. I want to give a shot out to the 5 DT in the depth chart. All 5 have been pretty solid the last few games. Which we will definitely need to continue against run first CMU no matter whom they have at QB.
ABOUT CENTRAL MICHIGAN
Central Michigan is 3-4 overall and 1-2 in MAC play this season. Offensively they
rush for 184.3 yards per contest, led by quarterback Angel Flores (88.3 rpg.). Xavier
White leads the Chippewas with 52 tackles this season. As stated in the first post in this thread, Flores is the offense.
Not to hijack the thread, but something I am feeling optimistic about is that we’re practically a young team. This week’s game notes really hammer it home. On offense we lose:
Yacamelli
Malcore
Smith
Beidatsch
Basically 2.5 starters? Not bad! Both OTs, so we’ll need to hit the portal hard assuming we don’t lose anyone else.
On D we’ll lose
Lyons, Myrick, Tatum, Coppess, Knighten. They all play, but none feel irreplaceable. Myrick obviously has been great, but we have McCain for 2 more years (if we can keep him!)
Obviously we’ll lose to the portal. But we’ll get guys too.
I think there’s lots of room for optimism for our future and the game notes this week reminded me of it.
Rosters are in such flux year to year now, I don’t worry about that until the season is over. You recruit, you keep recruiting even those who committed elsewhere, and keep lines of communication open because you never know who will flip or a year or so down the road portal from somewhere else to Miami. Like Rich Rolf in MBB who Steele offered when he was coming out of high school. Now he entered the portal and will play for Miami this year.
Rather than post CMU’s entire game notes, here is a cool flip card they create. Shows the depth charts and rosters of both teams. Flores is on the depth chart as QB1 along with Glasser which means it may be a game time decision.
One thing looking at CMU’s depth chart, they are not overly large on the D line. Actually very similar to us on their DT/DE 2 deeps. So maybe our OL can take advantage of that.
Western leaned on them pretty hard last weekend (45 rushes to 8 passes). I expect us to tip them over with a ratio that should be similar yet won’t be.
I don’t know why a CEO doesn’t do the company headshots on the corporate site that way. Some CFO in front of a waterwheel with falling leaves on the ground would be some funny shit.
