So only one player from last year’s team is in the starting lineup, Tretter. Which hopefully means Glenn feels he has upped his overall talent level.
Women play Appalacian State at 7:00 in Millett Hall Monday night. Game is on ESPN+. If you have not been keeping up, our team will have a completely new look. We have 4 returning starters but only one ( Amber Tretter) is starting this year. Coach Box and his staff have upgraded our talent level considerably and also is installing a new style of play. There are descriptions of all the new players if you go back and sort through the other threads under women’s basketball.
I am looking for a big improvement this year. I dream of a turnaround like we had in Coach Duffy’s first season, and I think it is possible, but the group will have to stay healthy and keep improving all year, which we actually did last season.
While we finished 9-20 last season, we also did go 5-5 in our last 10 games. App State went 17-15 ( 9-9) last season. They have one star player returning. 5-10 SR guard Emily Carver averaged 13.5ppg and 4.4 rpg and this year is a first team All Sunbelt preseason player. They also have a new coach, Alaura Sharp, who took Presbyterian to the NCAA tournament last season. The article mentions her style is great defense and ball control offense.
I will be at the women’s game, and then hopefully stay up and watch the replay of the men’s game when I get home. Sure would be great to get off to a fast start for both teams.
Got a call from my father-in-law yesterday asking why we were playing MACtion against a Sun Belt team on a Monday night before I brought him down to earth. Made me think that an in-season football Bracketbusters concept would be a fun gimmick for a season or two.
Power outage in most of (all?) Oxford and some nearby places. If you are driving, be extra careful. Deers all over the place these days.
Edit: Duke estimates power will be back at 9:15
What caused the outage?
I don’t know yet.
23-4 Miami end of 1.
Tamar Singer is the women’s version of Ipsaro.
63-31 Miami end of 3
Gonna be fun
Miami wins 75-48!!!
Double wins on opening night. Nice!
Yea us!
That’s quite a beat down.
Nice win! Looks like the MAC went 8-4 against the Sun belt!
If you haven’t listened to Coach Box’s post game comments, he mentioned we have 2 of the top European freshman in their age group, in Ilse and Tamar. Also probably not a coincidence in their first US college game they played the most minutes in the game.
Highlights from the women’s game:
This team has speed, multiple shooters, depth and plays good defense. Plus, they’re fun to watch. I think their ceiling is very high.
