Since Trump has taken over drilling of new wells has dropped 50% According to an expert Ken Breu was interviewing this weekend. Oil executives feel the drilling would cut prices enough that it would essentially destroy their profit margin which is very high right now. Despite the fact that they were major campaign contributors for the guy who was screaming “drill baby drill”.
Saturated market. MANY other factors as well.
Cost of crude oil down 20% from a year ago.
Let’s see what happens 12 months from now.
Thank goodness we’re not going BACK to the “other guy.”
The long standing prohibition of politics not directly related to Miami on MHT is a wise one. I suggest that we adhere to it.
Agree 100%!
Yet you are the one making the political statement. I made no judgemental comment, just gave out relevant info.
The parking lot at the Cincinnati Zoo is a good example.
Parking lot solar also prevents the acres of asphalt from absorbing heat.
I have it on good authority that everything will be much cheaper and you won’t have to show ID anymore when buying groceries!
When you wrote “Trump” you entered the political realm.
You followed that up as referring to the President as “the guy who was screaming”.
There is more politics in there than relevant info.
Getting back on track - ![]()
During my time at Miami (90-94) Wells had a dining hall. One semester I had a class at Bachelor and and class at Campus Avenue Building (i believe it’s now Nelly Walker) with an hour in between so on those days I would eat lunch at Wells. No matter what else they were serving for lunch they always had the BEST chicken sandwich and fries. I remember the dining hall lady asking me if I ever ate anything else.
And to prove how old I am - I would take some change and buy either a USA Today or Cincinnati Enquirer out of the newspaper box and read it while enjoying my chicken sandwich.
I’m not sure my incoming freshman has ever seen an actual newspaper. ![]()

Wells was my dining hall when I lived in Bishop. It was pleasant spot, and I still remember the occasional white tablecloth dinners with chamber music. That was a great work study gig for music majors.
In the 1980s, you could get the Enquirer delivered to your dorm room door, which I did primarily for the holy trinity of Far Side, Calvin & Hobbes, and Bloom County. I also subscribed to the New York Times. So few people on campus did that “delivery” consisted of being given the combination to a locked wooden box at the Shriver Center where you could stop by and grab your paper. You prepaid for the semester, and they changed the lock every semester. Not a bad system.
Wells diner here, when I lived in Swing (RIP). I ate at least 2 and usually 3 of those chicken sandwiches at a sitting. When I lived off campus, my buddies and I would pay to eat at the dining hall whenever they were on the menu. Okay, now I want one.
Rutgers has covered every parking lot with solar and I absolutely love it, saved me so much time brushing snow off my windshield last winter.
Yeah! I sure hope no jerk decides to post something political on this site, like “RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES!l!”
Not here!!! Here, we only talk about salient things like Wells Hall having pizza and pasta every weeknight AND it was one of the few halls that had soda machines.
Enquirer. Aren’t WE sophisticated?
I read the Post.
We used to joke that it was simply a regional edition of the National Enquirer.
Mother thought they had the better horoscope.
Parking lots with covered awnings with solar panels make too much sense
I know I am very late to chime this in, but in one of my senior year classes (spring ‘24) Olivia Herron, the director of sustainability, came to chat with us about Miami’s ongoing sustainability plan. Apparently many past donations have wording that explicitly prohibits solar being added to most building rooftops. The reason she gave me at the time is that past donors were worried about visible solar ruining the campus aesthetic.
