85-77 with 1:25 to go.
We run 17 seconds off the clock and then intentionally foul one of their best shooters?
Jackās scouting report:
āVanDerPlas really hurt us last game, so our first priority tonight is to prevent that.ā
91-78 Final. The big guys got badly outplayed.
Surprised?
Thatās a pretty normal defensive effortā¦OU is well coached with mentally and physically tough kidsā¦that are also talented.
Miami is not well coached and has a hard time catching a bounce passā¦but really enjoys jacking a bad shot.
Moral victoryā¦ kept it within 15ā¦less Jason Carter.
Ridiculous.
Yep. That MAC board def gave us bad Intel on Vanderplas. Definitely!
Have been in a funk since the SB so nothing negative to say here. Only positives! 1. We all wore the same uniform. That was nice. 2. There were no shots taken on the wrong basket. 3. The mascot didnāt start cheering for the wrong team. Great game!
Boals, Vanderass, and DICK have made a powerful enemy today.
Anyone surprised by a loss at OU?
They are as much of rival as UD, UC and Xā¦so, no.
Yeah Us!
At least OU still plays us every year, but only because the the conference requires them to. They probably donāt want to, as we only drag down their NET ranking.
Last night was basically their highest-attended game this season (barely behind Toledo, which was on a Friday night), OU always draws well against us. Thereās always going to be bad teams they have to play in the bottom half of the MAC, they donāt mind playing us for an easy win and because they can get some fan excitement from the rivalry (even if itās more cultural at this point than on the court).
This is now updated after Miamiās loss to Ohio. Since, the January 18 loss to Ohio, Miami lost to Kent, Akron (2x) and once again to Ohio:
Miami has not been good vs. TRADITIONAL MAC East opponents over the past 4+ years. Since the 2017-18 season, here is Miami vs. the historical top of the MAC East:
UB 3-8
Kent 2-7
Akron 3-7
Ohio 2-8
overall: 10-30
This season, Miami still has a game against Buffalo. I understand that the MAC no longer utilizes East/West but I think that it still is significant to look at those historic East teams. From the West, Miami has not fared well vs. Toledo.
Record vs. Toledo:
2017-18: 0-2
2018-19: 0-2
2019-20: 0-1
2020-21: 0-1
2021-22: 0-1 (with 1 game to play)
Our 4 veteran small guards played and produced very well. Grant and Lairy has 22 and 18. White had 11 in the first 8 minutes, all on wide open shots. After the 12 and under TO Ohio mad an adjustment and started guarding him and he did not sore again. ICL hit 4 threes and had 12 points, so those 4 guys scored 63. Avance and Williams never entered the game until the last 8 minutes because those other guys were playing great.
Now the 5 inside players were more or less a disaster. Combined they scored 15 points and had 15 rebounds. Ben VanderPlas by himself scored 30 and had 10 rebounds. None of our bigs were able to guard him or even slow him down. This was also true when we played in Oxford.
Dalonte is giving us some minutes and some production, but is very tentative. He is not leaping, not making quick pivots. Either he canāt or he has the mental hurdle to get over of letting go and going all out (fearing the wrenching pain of reinjuring it).
Was Michael Reghi not available?
Doing Akron game tonight if you are a big fan.
LOL the jokeās on me!
